This picture gives a beautiful message, tho I cannot deny that my heart aches to see the situation this child is in. The message shows to me that despite one's limitation, never cease in trying to achieve, never cease in aspiring to do what your heart yearns. This picture is tearfully beautiful.

Isaiah 44:22

The next verse, Isaiah 44: 23, should also be read, it clarifies the jubilation one has when one's personal relationship with the Lord , The Creator of the Universe, has been rectified, through the acceptance of the Saviorship and Lordship of Jesus Christ in one's life.

"Sing for joy, you heavens, for the Lord has done this;
    shout aloud, you earth beneath.
Burst into song, you mountains,
you forests and all your trees,
for the Lord has redeemed Jacob,
he displays his glory in Israel."

4th Day

Most compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who do not believe in God and of those who as yet do not know You. Let the rays of Your grace enlighten them that they, too, together with us, may extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape from the abode which is Your Most Compassionate Heart.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who do not believe in You, and of those who as yet do not know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.

Greetings Guys,

I just want to say hello and extend my regards to everyone in the board! Right now, I am here with my family in the town of Sundance, of the great state of Wyoming, USA. We have been driving since 3 AM Friday. We are driving to the Yellowstone National Park, USA. We've just stopped for the night at the Best Western Hotel here in Sundance; we should be heading out tomorrow morning at 7 AM. We have another some 500 miles left to go ! We've driven already some 950 miles (our starting point was at Chicago, Illinois, USA).

This trip has allowed me to see the full breadth of the beauty of the United States, not just from the city perspective, but at the rural, the geographical perspective, appreciating the expansive farm land of the "breadbasket" region of the midwest, the rolling prairie fields of Minnesota, South Dakota and here in Wyoming ! Wow, guys, its so beautiful. I will post pictures here of my family's trip later on.

Today, we were able to visit Mount Rushmore National Park in South Dakota. Simply amazing! Tomorrow, we are to visit Devil's Tower in Wyoming, which is a historical site here in Wyoming (it was home to the Native American Resistance fighters during the Great Indian Wars of the late 19th century).

I hope you all are doing well, and know that I am thinking of you all as I am here with my family. It really is so beautiful.

Love and Regards,
Bran Lorenzo

i made no sale with my fighting cocks.  when a potential buyer points at a certain cock, i turned him down by giving different reasons, i.e., not that, he is still recovering; that one is my favorite, etc.  it became terrible for me to part with my fighting cocks.  each one has its own charms and i wanted to keep them as pets.

but i got a whole small sari-sari store from a soft drinks company manager.  it was a complete small building installed by the fence, ready with ten cases of soft drinks, in exchange for two cocks.  another two went to a certain guy, for free.  this certain guy became my husband.  hahaha! ;D

ha ha ha! i asked my mom a question regarding lola's chicken pets one time, "mom, did lola ever cook any of the chickens in the backyard?"

her response, "no, your lola never killed any chickens at all; she raised them as pets."

it was a trait she inherited from her papa, lolo mariano. chickens are supposed to bring good luck kono, in chinese folklore. chinese man gud to si lolo mariano. lolo mariano apprently also grew chickens as pets sa una.

lola said to me and my cousins, "mao na, mga ondoy og inday, nga ayaw gajod ikalimti nga pinangga kamo tanan nako og ni lolo..."

once, we arrived at the mactan airport lugging 5 pet carriers, each with one cat.  the porters must have thought we were rich (5 cats on the plane, wow!), believing that our cats are of expensive breed perhaps (i told them though that they are street cats that look beautiful because they're cared for and they can do the same, i mean, pick up strays and care for them).  well, obviously for them we spent for the cats' trips, so we must have some money, hehe.

then they saw bluey coming.  they asked if it's the car we were waiting for; i said yes.  i saw the disbelief on their faces, it made my day.  serves them right for their presumptions. ;D

A really great point:

"There's a sense of alienation from the practice of medicine itself," Sulmasy said. "When it becomes seen as purely technology, as merely something that is done to persons as objects, that winds up also in a sense making the clinician into an object. We can have spectacular, 21st century technologically advanced medicine and treat people as whole persons at the same time, but we need to move the balance back to where we're doing both and not just one."

One place where spirituality and religion could be integrated into clinical practice is at the medical school level. Following the model of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics (where the Program on Medicine and Religion is based), the faculty scholars program hopes to inspire participant faculty to create curricula in religion and medicine at their home institutions.

"We are modeling this on other successful programs that have really been able to effect a change in the culture of medicine and build capacity in other fields," Sulmasy said. "In the great tradition of the University of Chicago teaching the teachers, we're trying to do the same thing here."

The first class of Faculty Scholars, announced March 1, will include John J. Hardt of Loyola University, Abraham Nussbaum of the University of Colorado, Aasim Padela of the University of Chicago Medicine, and Michael Balboni of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard University. The program will begin with a spring retreat in May 2012.

"We seek to help develop a field that really doesn't exist right now, which is the field of medicine and religion," Curlin said. "It's part of an overall hope that we can, through this work and future projects, contribute to a spiritual renewal within the practice of medicine," Curlin said."

Inspiration & Hope / The Spirituality of Medicine
June 27, 2012, 09:43:37 AM
More than 9 out of 10 US physicians claim a religious affiliation. According to research conducted by Farr Curlin, associate professor of medicine and co-director of the Program on Medicine and Religion at the University of Chicago, more than half of responding doctors agree with this statement, "My religious beliefs influence my practice of medicine."

His work is supported by a $2.5 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation. "Often religion is construed as a set of personal beliefs and ideas that threatens to prejudice a physician's practices or responses to patients, and interferes with physicians' professional obligations," Curlin explains. But is that true?

Curlin and his team will try to find out, thanks to a new program to help faculty scholars study these questions. The Chicago Tribune carried an extensive report on the work earlier this month. "When doctors are dispirited, the care they give to patients is worse," Curlin said. "Patients should be very hopeful that their doctor sees their work as a remarkable privilege, even a holy privilege, that will make the doctor respond to that patient out of joy."

You're welcome, States. High fiber diet , with these necessary anti-lipid drugs can help control cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Yes, Omega 3&6 fatty acids are also very effective cardioprotectors. Keep it up, States.

As I always counsel my patients, health is wealth. :)

Health and Food / Re: Green Tea Diet Review

Due to the popularity of recent findings, green tea has almost become synonymous with weight loss and diet. The addition of green tea diet into diet pills and weight loss supplements is perhaps spurred by reports of harmful side-effects of other drugs like ephedra.

Why choose green tea diet?

For four thousand years, green tea diet has been used all throughout Asia as a beneficial health and medicinal drink. Green tea diet is different from all other tea diets because its liquid is extracted by steaming the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant as opposed to full oxidation. In this way, green tea diet manages to preserve a lot more antioxidants and keep them intact for the body to use.

Green tea diet is an excellent source of polycatechin polyphenols, a group of antioxidants that act on free radicals. These free radicals have harmful effects on the body since they are the major causes of diseases and aging. With green tea diet’s polycatechin polyphenols, a person has a better chance of avoiding ailments and keeping himself healthy for a much longer period of time.

Another antioxidant in green tea diet is also being studied as a potential cure for cancer. Epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG found in green tea diet has been discovered to destroy cancer cells while keeping surrounding healthy cells unharmed.

The EGCG in green tea diet also acts with another compound, caffeine (a small amount of this is found in green tea). The interaction of these two compounds causes green tea diet to promote thermogenesis in the body.

It has been noted by a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that with the consumption of green tea diet, the body’s total 24-hour energy expenditure is increased by up to four percent. This is roughly equivalent to losing more than 10 pounds of weight a month.

Green tea diet helps increase the body’s metabolic rates. With its thermogenic properties, it is only natural that green tea diet can also promote faster metabolism of fats and sugars. Excess glucose found in the body is turned into fats by the hormone insulin. Because green tea diet has an inhibiting effect on insulin, green tea diet therefore helps keep sugar from being stored as fats and instead, send them directly into the muscles for immediate use.

The downside to a green tea diet

Although green tea diet has a reputation for boosting health, scientific proofs of its health benefits are still somewhat mixed. However, in an article published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, American researchers collaborated with their Chinese counterparts to discuss the beneficial effects of green tea diet on cholesterol levels.

Using 240 men and women (average age 55) who possess mild to moderately high LDL cholesterol levels, the researchers instructed them to retain their usual low-fat diet, green tea diet intake, and activity levels. After twelve weeks, it was found that those who consumed green tea diet extract with their regular meals lost more than fifteen percent of their total LDL cholesterol levels.

Although the researchers never explained how green tea diet may influence cholesterol levels, previous studies have shown that certain compounds in green tea diet play a role in reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the body, increasing amount of cholesterol excreted, and thus keeping cholesterol from being stored in the liver.

Subsequent studies were made to test the findings of the first group of researchers. Their results were contradictory. They found that green tea diet has no significant effect on the cholesterol profiles of their subjects.

There is no such thing as a miracle diet. Green tea diet, like all other diets, needs a lot of work and input from those who enroll in it. Green tea diet required both discipline and heart for it to make any significant impact on your weight loss goals.

Marinol tablet is derived from marijuana which oftentimes prescribed to  patient with lung cancer
ug usa sa akong patients  this  past week-end  nagtake ani, dili makaayo pero  makatabang kono.   ::)

but yes, states, this drug has palliatative qualities for the nausea and vomitting, but does not treat cancer.

Marinol, or otherwise known as Dronabinol, has derivatives from cannabis. However, this drug does not treat cancer. Dronabinol is prescribed to treat the NVD (nausea, vomitting, diarrhea) associated with chemotherapy, and alkylating agents that are given to kill the cancer.

This drug is not necessarily given that much because it has a plethora of serious side effects including: anxiety, tachycardia, severe nausea, memory loss, suicidal ideation and feelings of depression.

I prefer to prescibe a drug called granisetron, or palonestron, which have fewer side effects. :)

what a demanding situation.  i wouldn't want to be in your shoes.  i guess it's because doctors are supposed to be brave, being on the front line of the war between life and death.  you have my sympathies, lorenz.

thanks isles. just some of my thoughts in regards to the health care protocol. we are not supposed to be religious at work, however, when a patient asks to talk about God , we have to agree to talk or refer them to a social worker.

i guess one thing that gets me is that why is it so bad to be spiritual or religious?

aside from the fact that doctors are expected to make miracles.  right on, lorenz.

the paradox is that physicians are expected to be unemotional;  it is impossible to be unemotional or not affected by the loss of a patient.
