At home in America my mom is watching my mouthy snake in a red jacket!

I am refering to my 30+ year old Blue and green wing Macaw parrot who is covered in red body feathers.

So parrots can go that old, Precious?  that's really neat!  My sister would be happy to read this.  Thanks.

God created everything perfect. Why should we change what is created for men. Ok ra pud kon pisot, some says . They are contented of what God created for them.

But it's also in the bible that uncircumcised men are deemed unclean.

Tolinang at yesterays piso was at P115 per kilo

large jumbo prawns were at P400. per kilo

The power of the piso is crap and the lines at grocery markets have dwindled the junk food potato chip aisles are always buzzing more then the meat sections these past few weeks.

The cheapest head of lettuce today was at P72 and the most exspensive was around P184 oh my gooooooodness!

when I exchanged one American "C" note today I was given an exchange of P4150

There's one good news I see in your post, Precious.  The dollar conversion.  I thought it was still 38 and something pesos for a dollar.

But Lorenzo, the genre I'm into these days (if I have time to read ) are on medical thrillers, wars, detectivs, courtroom dramas, terrorism, life .not on romance na kaayo like Danielle Steele's genre..lol

Tuesdays with Morrie was a good read and so are his other books For One More Day and Five People You Meet in Heaven.  Speaking of which, Haze, were you able to buy the Tuesdays with Morrie that was on sale in your bookstore?

Bem, you can also use sour cream in lieu of coconut milk or yogurt when you make chicken curry.  It's so good too though not as rich if you use coconut milk.  But I like the taste of it too.  Or, you can make a curried sour cream dip. yum too!

I do like chicken curry, Dong!  I like to use curry powder.  I have this simple chicken recipe that uses flattened chicken breast marinated with lots of garlic and curry powder and lemon juice with the zest.  Just warm a little olive oil in the skillet, pan fry the marinated chicken without putting the marinade.  Once brown on both sides, add the marinade, stir until cooked and add salt and pepper to taste.   eat with chapati or just rice and that's good!

haha lami! tongue enticing jud.

My friend Awtar helped me cook Rajasthani-style chicken tikka masala before, ang style kai different sa bihari or southern indian chicken curry kai dili kaayo spicy ang Rajasthani style chicken tikka masala.

They do use alot of white plain yogurt, and orange curry. Perting lami kaayo, the style he uses is only yogurt; but when I cook it I add a can or two of coconut milk with the yogurt so it puts a balance. He likes to add sugar, but I like to ad a dash of salt and black pepper.

I serve my chicken tikka masala with white rice, pero Awtar eats his with nan (flat bread). Lami baya ilang style, kai very intricate.

That sounds good, Dong!  I think I go with in eating chicken tikka masala with rice and not with flat bread.  More rice please because I still have some sauce left! hahahaha

Bem, I see your point as you draw the comparison between Clarissa Ocampo and Jun Lozano.  Clarissa's intention was merely to speak the truth and she did even if it caused her freedom.  I remember at that time when she had to be wheeled from  all over the place just to confuse the people "after" her so she couldn't talk.  She entered Linden Suite in her hideaway car, went down to the underground floor, took a lift in the elevator and stayed in one condo for few days before she was moved again out of the country through "back door".  She was crying because she was away from her family as they were also being hidden.  She sacrificed her life and family for the sake of speaking the truth.  It did pay off, I think because it helped jail Erap.  She was credible because she didn't have any political aspiration.

As to Lozano, at first he sounded credible but it's now apparent that he is entertaining the idea of becoming a political person in the next election.  And that is because why again?

Yes, there's a lot of suffering in our country and there's even more, more so if you have the likes of Erap or Lozano as presidents.  Our country has been financially raped by the previous regime, corruption got ingrained that had mangled the morals and values of our politicians.  And it also did to the people.  We became a party to the corruption.  Need I explain how we become party to this corruption scheme of our leaders?  It would take years before we can fix our government but we are not going anywhere until we resolve to be watchdog to our own country.  Until we stop be to used by these politicians.  Rallying doesn't help anymore because we expect that the next president will be rallied upon again. And the next one.  Who among the previous presidents after Marcos who was not threatened of ouster?  None.  Even Cory herself who was supposed to be spotless and was supposed to have carried the torch of democracy back in our country.  Rallying has lost its luster already. It affected the essence of the rally that catapulted Cory to power.  The People's Power.

Between GMA and Erap, I would go for GMA a million times.

No machine was used to carve mountain sides to flat plains for rice. Rock, stone, and dirt were removed.
It was raw, and pure man power, and a rugged determination to survive that drove our ancient forefathers to do this.
No temple, building, ship, or decorations can compare this kind of impact.

Quote from: Lorenzo on January 09, 2008, 01:59:27 AM
Thanks for sharing that anecdote, Smiff. I hope that your friend is dealing with it, I know how hard it is to loose a very close friend. The death of one of my closest friends this past November 20th  will forever be etched in my mind. Sometimes, it feels so surreal, one cannot believe that it is happening to them or the family members of the victim. I have never felt such a loss till the death of Rob Matson. I can close my eyes and remember our last conversation, the last time we went out to the bar in college- Chippers Bar. I can still clearly remember me, rob and some other friends walking to the bar--it was a  Tuesday evening because Chipper's has a 30 cent wing night; lol. I ordered a dozen spicy barbeque and Rob, for his size he had a huge appetite, ordered 24 hot wings LOL. I still remembering toasting a mug of beer with him and some friends.

I miss him, I miss the fun times that we had, and I thank God all the time for the good memories, the fine memories that I had with him. All of us who were affected by his death took it hard. You know. Imagine it was our fall semester of our senior year--that he took his life. I only saw him 2-3 days before he passed. Had I only known such things were going in his head, I WOULD have gone to him in a heart beat. Mourning for him was hard for me. I never mourned that much for anyone--nor can I remember being affected so drastically. Emotionally and physically drained, I cried almost every day--and fell into a slight depression immediately afterwards. For about 2 weeks, this went on. The only way I was ever to climb out of it was my faith. Talking to friends helped for a bit, but not so much. It was the hours I spent in prayer in church--before the Crucifix--prostrated--that is where I poured my tears.

Before, I could not feel such comfort in silence, but after the incident-I can surely witness the power of prayer. There is comfort in prayer, and the Lord who is boundless of Love and Mercy hears all our prayers. Our prayers are like sweet incense to the Lord. I would not have been able to cope with the loss of my best friend had it not been for prayer, and the church visits at night.

I can never forget this incident, and the void and emptiness after the loss of a very strong and close friend is hard to fill in, hard to secure. And I will carry it with me to my dying day. It is only through the Grace of God and his Mercy that we strive to do the best that we can, with the days we have been allotted in this green earth. Let us make the best of it.

:'(

Dong, the friend of Alyssa/Smiffy she was referring in her post died of car accident.  His big brother was driving and the young brother got killed.  It was so tragic.  I remember reading it in the newspaper and I felt so sad especially for the big brother because they were so close to each other.  Then Alyssa told me about this friend of them who died and I said, I read that in the news.  Anyway, the guy who died and Alyssa's childhood friend were so closed they almost looked alike.  It was really sad.

Naka suway na jud ko, Ms Happy...mao na leksyon na jud ko.

Right after I graduated, I applied for a medrep job with Glaxxo-SmithKline in Cagayan de Oro.

We were put through a number of tests and interviews, from the hundreds of applicants we were narrowed down to 10 prospective employees.

For the final interview, the big boss came to CDO from Mla and set up individual interviews with the 10 of us, unya duha ra ming girls nahabilin. I really wanted that job bad. On the big day though, I did the unthinkable. I was fifteen minutes late!

I didn't get the job, of course. Biggest heartbreak of my "career"...career kuno!

:)

I was in Davao City, fresh from college when I submitted my application to then Northern Mindanao Development Bank which was later bought by Equitable PCIB.  The Head Office was in Cagayan de Oro so I went there for the interview.  My first job interview. It was so daunting.  The office was huge and beautiful and the aircon was so, so cold I could hardly talk!  I was already interviewed by all the Top Management except for the President because he was in Manila for a Board Meeting.  I waited for another day.

Anyway, the Vice President in his interview to me asked me what if I got the job and somebody offers me a job in Davao.  Would I take the job in Davao?  Nah, naive and honest as I was, I said, Yes.  We became friends later but he told me I failed in that interview.  Good thing the rest of the top management gave me their okay.

Then came the big boss.  I was directed to the Office of the Managing Director which was also the President.  The room was even colder or maybe I was just so nervous.  First he asked me, what was my weakness and I answered right away this:  My weakness is eating peanuts! hahahahahhaha  Later I swear I could kick myself with my silly answer!  Then he asked me, who is your best friend and why? Whew, I didn't have a bestfriend then so I said, God is my bestfriend because wherever I go, whatever I do, however I feel, he is just right there for me.  He looked at me like he wanted to smile but he stifled it.  Then he said, thank you for dropping by!  I was thinking to myself, what do you mean dropping by?  I travelled all the way from Davao City, all 8 hours of bumpy road and that's dropping by? hahahah  Anyway, I got the job. And worked their for good 10 years!

Blessings unto you all,

Matthew 6:33
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you."

The Lyrics:

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
                        And His righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you
                        Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Man shall not live by bread alone
                        But by every word
That proceeds from the mouth of God
                        Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Ask and it shall be given unto you
                        Seek and ye shall find
Knock and the door shall be opened unto you
                        Hallelu, Hallelujah!

If the Son shall set you free
                        Ye shall be free indeed
Ye shall know the truth, and it shall set you free
                        Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Let your light so shine before men that they may see
                        Your good works and glorify
                        Your Father in heaven
                        Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart
                        He shall direct thy paths
In all thy ways acknowledge Him
                        Hallelu, Hallelujah!

I love this song too, Dodong!  Thank you!

Two sisters from Virginia sold this cornflake for $1,350 on eBay.

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP)  -- Two sisters from Virginia sold their Illinois-shaped cornflake on eBay Friday night for $1,350.

"We were biting our nails all the way up to the finish, seeing what would happen," said Melissa McIntire, 23. "There's a lot of relief involved."

The winner of the auction, which lasted more than a week, is the owner of a trivia Web site who wants to add the cornflake to a traveling museum.

"We're starting a collection of pop culture and Americana items," said Monty Kerr of Austin, Texas. "We thought this was a fantastic one." Video See another oddly shaped food item »

Kerr owns TriviaMania.com and said he will likely send someone to Virginia to pick up the flake by hand, so it won't be damaged.

This isn't the first cornflake that Kerr has tried to buy. He said he purchased a flake billed as the world's largest, but that by the time it was delivered it had crumbled into three pieces.

McIntire and her sister Emily, 15, listed the cornflake on eBay last week, but eBay canceled the auction, saying it violated the Web site's policy against selling food.

The sisters restarted their eBay auction, advertising a coupon redeemable for their cornflake instead of the cereal itself.

The McIntires said they'll likely use the money for a family vacation.

Copycat items have popped up on eBay, including cornflakes shaped like Hawaii and Virginia. There's also been a potato chip shaped like Florida, and Illinois cornflake paraphernalia, including T-shirts and buttons.

VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Italy's most prominent Muslim commentator converted to Roman Catholicism on Saturday during the Vatican's Easter vigil service presided over by the pope.

An Egyptian-born, non-practicing Muslim, Magdi Allam has infuriated some fellow Muslims with his criticism of extremism and support for Israel.

The deputy editor of the Corriere della Sera newspaper, Allam often writes on Muslim and Arab affairs.

He told the Il Giornale newspaper in a December interview that his criticism of Palestinian suicide bombings generated threats on his life in 2003, prompting the Italian government to provide him with a sizeable security detail.

Pope Benedict XVI baptized seven adults during the service. Video Watch the vigil »

It marks the period between Good Friday, which commemorates Jesus' crucifixion, and Easter Sunday, which marks his resurrection.

The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said of Allam before the service that anyone who chooses to become a Catholic of his or her own free will has the right to receive the sacrament. Video Watch Allam receive the sacrament of baptism »

Lombardi said the pope administers the sacrament "without making any 'difference of people,' that is, considering all equally important before the love of God and welcoming all in the community of the Church."

In the Il Giornale interview, Allam explained his complicated relationship with Islam and his affinity for Israel.

"I was never practicing," he was quoted as saying. "I never prayed five times a day, facing Mecca. I never fasted during Ramadan."

Yet he said he did make the pilgrimage to Mecca, as is required of all Muslims, with his deeply religious mother in 1991.

Married to a Catholic, with a young son and two adult children from his first marriage, Allam indicated in the interview that he would have no problem converting to Christianity.

He said he had even received Communion once -- when he was 13 or 14 -- "even though I knew it was an act of blasphemy, not having been baptized."

Allam also explained his decision to entitle a recent book "Viva Israel" or "Long Live Israel," saying he wrote it after he received death threats from Hamas.

"Having been condemned to death, I have reflected a long time on the value of life. And I discovered that behind the origin of the ideology of hatred, violence and death is the discrimination against Israel. Everyone has the right to exist except for the Jewish state and its inhabitants," he said. "Today, Israel is the paradigm of the right to life."

In 2006, Allam was a co-winner, with three other journalists, of the $1 million Dan David prize, named for the Israeli entrepreneur of the same name. Allam was cited for "his ceaseless work in fostering understanding and tolerance between cultures."

Benedict opened the lengthy nighttime service by blessing a white candle, which he then carried down the main aisle of the darkened St. Peter's Basilica. Slowly, the pews began to light up as his flame was shared with candles carried by the faithful, until the whole basilica twinkled and the main lights came on.

The baptism rite during the vigil service is part of the joyful renewal Christians associate with Easter.

There is no overarching Muslim law on conversion. But under a widespread interpretation of Islamic legal doctrine, converting from Islam is apostasy and punishable by death -- though killings are rare.

Egypt's highest Islamic cleric, the Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa, wrote last year against the killing of apostates, saying there is no worldly retribution for Muslims who abandon their religion and that punishment would come in the afterlife.

Reaction to Allam's conversion was largely muted from Italy's Muslim community.

The Union of Islamic Communities in Italy -- which Allam has frequently criticized as having links to Hamas -- said the baptism was a personal choice.

"He is an adult, free to make his personal choice," the Apcom news agency quoted the group's spokesman, Issedin El Zir, as saying.

Osama bin Laden accused the pope in a new audio message posted Wednesday of playing a "large and lengthy role" in a "new Crusade" against Islam that included the publication of drawings of the Prophet Mohammed that many Muslims found insulting.

Lombardi said Thursday that bin Laden's accusation was baseless. He said Benedict repeatedly criticized the Mohammed cartoons, first published in some European newspapers in 2006 and republished by Danish papers in February.
