Di permi hangin kay naa man tas ubos permi pod nga dili hangin, daghang salipod... the higher u r, the windy it gets (in relation sa ubos)

Hehehe.

Pardon for triggering a discusion... this is a photography thread.

                              TREES

by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Lovely poem!

Please don't get me wrong Enz, I agree with all that you are saying, the two previous ones. I just added my compassionate reflection (kuno) based on all the homilies that I give when I do funerals in the last 25 years, sometimes to people who I have no clue about what kind of life they lived when they were alive, but even more so to people I know who never practiced what we termed as "Catholic practices." All I can say in those/these teachable moments are words of comfort and the assurance that for some reason that's beyond us we can never under estimate the power and mercy of our God. But not stop short of encouraging them or inviting them to partake in God's invitation itself to find life in Him: after all He is what we call "the way, the truth and the life" and that "no one comes to the Father except through Him." And that apart from the "true" vine, which branch or leaf will not wither and die? Hehehe.

The answer to this thread's question can be found in the 1st book of Corinthians:

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

-1 Corinthians 6: 9-11

--

My message to everyone, let us pray for them. That is all we can do, is to pray for them.

True. By themselves, no one (meaning nobody) will inherit the Kingdom of God but by the grace and mercy of God who died for all our sins. Dili lang sila but kitang tanan. So kung sabton nato, hasta pod ta apil sa dili makasud sa gingharian sa Dios... but fortunately duna tay Ginoo who willingly atoned for the human race, sa iyang mga sala... and so we were all washed by the blood of His sacrifice. Mao bitaw sa Ebanghelyo ni John, Jesus assured us "I will not lose any of those God gave to me or who come to me because it's the will of the one who sent me." And so who are we to say we're guaranteed salvation while the others are not (that is some confidence or faith!)... when that is not even the will of the heavenly Father? The Bible said His will/desire is for ALL? Does that mean we know His ways more than He does. After all, His ways are not our ways and He works in some mysterious ways that we will never understand, even for those who claim to have the faith. I know I speak only for myself... but I'll never question what I was taught is God's will. There's no question it was Jesus who said it's God will (look it up in John's gospel). So how can we claim to know so much other than what Jesus taught us. Hmmm.

Oh, one more thing, if Jesus can extend himself so much so as to die for us even when we were His enemies because of our sins, I wonder why can't we extend ourselves a little bit even if only as far as not  to judge one another? Did He say that again? You bet He did! After all Jesus saves!!!

Sa minarong pagkasulti - my cousin uses this argument all the time (and He's got a point). Kung moundang na si Jesus ug pasayloa sa mga nakasa o di na siya ganahan mo save nato kay gehaguan na siya sa atong kagahig ulo... you might as well start looking for a real God. Hehehe.

My garden is not that big, three columns ra and it's all vegies: yellos squash, zuccini, eggplant and tomatoes. Makalingaw sad labi na kung way buhat ma hapon. Estudyante ra ba ka, do you have the time?

If i tell you guys that i had one abortion, would you all say im a sinner? if the procedure was badly needed  t0 save my health? if that would make me a sinner then i should enjoy my eternal life in hell! hahahhaha

Mao jud nay panudlo sa "ato" nga simbahan MDB nga ang atong kaluwasan nag-agad ra gyod sa Ginoo, sa iyang pagkamaloloy-on, dili sa atong achievements, accomplishments, mga buhat or because we deserve it, even if we sometimes tend to think so. Si Hesus na bitaw niingon nga "I didn't come here to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through "HIM".... "you have already my "WORD" who will be your judge." Ug bisan pa ana na panultion, still, the prerogative to judge in not on "US" but God's... ambot unsay lisod sabton ana nga usa ramay sugo sa Ginoo... go and proclaim the mercy and love of God and summon His disciples "love one another as I have loved you." I don't remember Him telling any of His disciples at any time nga "palihog kuno kog bantay sa mga tawo kung kinsa nilay "good boys & girls" ug kinsa pod tong "naughty & bad."

Ug unsa man diay love nga gipakita sa Ginoo, di ba magpakamatay man para sa iyang mga isig kaingon, even His enemies and persecutors. Aguy! He died for all of us even when we were His enemies because of our sins. Ambot nganong motipas man jud ta, even aning aspetoha sa Biblia.  Di ba ingon man pod siya: "Do not judge and you will not be judged?"

So where do we stand? Unsa man jud ato pagtoo, we're really better people or less evil than these "least of our brethren?" Aguy! Believe it or not, the greatets sin in the world is the sin of PRIDE coz we always think - whether we admit/realize/know it or not - that the world revolves around us or the self. We're (our self) the measure of everything that's good and right (hasta gani mga gagmay bata atong kasab-an kay di sila mo act like our "self" in certain situations. It's always the "other" person who's imperfect and less loved by God and not us/self. Sometimes we think that way individually or as group or as a Church.

Moa jud nay aong kahadlokan kung wa nako aning kalibutana and I'll be facing my JUDGE, because by then, I'll be walking "the last mile, baby" matud pag professor nako sa DOGMA. It's all between me and God, dili ku gunsay gebuhat sa uban. Wew!

And I'll never forget what Jesus said (to the judgmental crowd): mauna pa nato mga k******n, mga borikat, mga b***t, mga tomboy, mga aditz2x, mga kriminal, ug ubang mga makasasa ngadto sa gingharian sa Diyos."
I wonder why He said that. Huh!

Did He really say that? You bet!!!

Gisampolan paman gani tas Ginoo didto sa krus... hayaha sa kawaton oy!

You'll never know how God's grace works!!!

Thanks, Father!  I had great time jud.  Yesterday, my sister and I attended mass before I left for Sacramento.  Didto mi sa Precious Blood Church.  That was one mass I will always remember.  Pastilan jud I couldn't contain myself, naka drama jud ko'g hilak.  99.9% sa nag attend adtong 9:30 mass were Pinoys.  The choir was composed of oldie Pinoys, too,, and yes, some songs were Tagalog.  Altar and other servers were Pinoys and so was the Priest - a certain Father Trinidad from Don Bosco.  He delivered one of the best sermons.

What was so heartwarming was to see younger people greeting the older people in the church with a Mano.  That really reminds me of home.  I missed that.

Most gay in philippines is much different from gay here in U.S . If a person here in U.S tell you he/she is gay it means they actually doing the homosexual perverted act. Like the pro-abortion people who march on the street rallying they sometimes so nasty, angry and you name it.They want equal right but sad thing is they wanna be more than equal. They thrive on discriminated status.
Most gay in philippines wala nila tuyua nga mabayot sila. They call it inborn hahahah. They were very hardworking people, they go church, they know it's sin to do a homosexual act.For me they were more feminine than gay I think.

INDECISION

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo C. Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo! Romeo!

1
Indecision
Reflects uncertainty
Prevents our moving on.
Vindication
Excuses that we make
To hide away the truth.

2
Irreligion
It's messing up the faith
It's really going deep.
Invocation -
A need to make a plea
It's a real deal.

Refrain:
There's no regret, no illusion
Not sign of regress or confusion
Violence feeds revolution.
Avoid bad emotion,
Embrace high ambition -
Life is too precious
We have to move on.

3
Domination -
Competition everywhere,
Can't see the finish line.
Hard condition -
Imprisonment for all;
We have to free ourselves.

Bridge:
Evolution
With all its growing pain
Creation at its best.
Animation -
It brings us life again
A glorious day begins.

(Repeat Refrain twice)

Coda:
Indecision
It's something we can't keep
We need to move along.
Indecision
No matter if it's deep
We have to move along.

(Repeat Coda then fade)

Fortunately, in my hometown, a center is actively pursuing research and training on culture, heritage and the arts. Its staff are currently conducting cultural and heritage mapping in every barangay to gather information on, among others, local myths, legends, folkways and beliefs. Someday, they will rewrite the town's history and determine what truly is our cultural identity.

I hope other towns will follow suit; they just can't wait for the national and provincial govts to lead the initiative. Am glad to hear there are some who's taking a pro-active role in writing the history of their own area because it's very crucial for today and tomorrow. I like what I'm hearing many towns are doing these days but I hope they go past sightseeing and economic development stuff... historical archives or writing a book about a town maybe!

This is a great point, Buwad, Glace and Father.

From my experience lang, and I am speaking through my own conviction--is that we all will sin. Given man jud na. God Almighty knows me and you--our ins and our outs.

All of us are sinners in the eyes of God. Romans 3:23, "For all have come short of the Glory of God."

But that does not give us the excuse to sin precipitously and lasciviously. Yes, we sin, but repentance is required, is sacrifice for that sin. By the merits of Christ, we are saved.

It is the act of homosexuality that is a sin. An Abominable sin, if we refer to Leviticus. and also tot he words of Apostle Paul.

Pero in my own opinion, instead of condemning it--we should pray for them na lang. Prayer is powerful, after all.

Christ Have Mercy on all of Us.

Amen to that Enz. Kana maoy most effective way kay arang daghana jamo nila... lagjo pod. Di madag bagtas ug di matabang'g latos tanan! Hehehe!

Good thinking Glace... compassion! we're all learning. Matud pa ni Hesus "I did not come here to condemn the world... but to invite them to slavation." Ika nga, way pugsanay. In fact, we need to pray for all and seek out the lost, like he said he came for. But how do we seek them out? I guess nag "trial and error" pa ta hangtod karon. The Church tried the harsh way before but it wasn't the best. Angay siguro pod ta moduko sa yuta sama ni Kristo ug mosuwat sa yuta: "who does not sin may cast the first stone!"

Katigbi is Job's tears. Moingon gyud silag katigbi, and they are correct. Surf the net and compare the two plants and you will know the difference between the two plants. I happened to study both plants in my Weed Science and Plant Classification subjects, both their botany and economic significance, while I was in college.

Nobody's insisting that the two plants are one and the same. That was never the issue. The sites alone can attest to that. The problem resides in the fact that many old folks have or had wrong perception of what katigbi or cattails are. Maybe, too, there are who know the real score. But whether they really know or not, it's anybody's guess. Simple as that. The myths surrounding Dagohoy, Salazar of Ubujan, Datu Sikatuna or which church is older Baclayon or Loboc, or whether Katigbi is job's tears or cattails, etc. goes all the way back when tradition were handed down mostly by way of mouth and hardly any literature (feathers or stone?). If nobody will write them down, we could be on the brink of losing some or all of these wonderful stuff/tradition our children's children could benefit from 1,000 or more years from now. Human beings have only short-term memory, lifetime at best. Of course, we realize we're still ways to go as far as "being" truly cultural or "evolving" into" being cultural. Maybe "enjoying" this so-called cultural rainaissance happening in Bohol lately is what we really are for now. At this stage in time, it looks like we're still in sight-seeing, tourism and economic development aspects more than anything else.

Good job KP. What you did is great. Am glad you did it... that is, did more research online. Hope Catigbianons will get to learn the difference between the two plants so more urban legends are declassified or demythologized (did I say it right?). Bohol is full of myths because of "hongihongs" and hearsays, and the Bol-anon's easy disposition to "istorya sa ilawom sa dagat," "ingcanto" and/or "ghost stories." They should have done this a long time ago but didn't. I'm in favor of what you did, but that doesn't change the fact  that weed "katigbi" - for now - circles around the image of cattails as perpetuated by this so-called urban myth. Am glad for the info but I've to reiterate also the fact that I'm here only to add my one-cent to the thread: origin of your town, baryo or sitio, (not study the plant itself - I wish I have more time for that) Catigbian for Katigbi, whether it's the right plant or not, hehehe. I'm sure you're efforts are appreciated. Hope you do something about what you know!!! Somebody should write a book on urband legends or teach them in schools!!!

Bishops roll eyes on men in gowns

The road walked on by gay men taking part in Santacruzans is paved with their good intentions, but the local Roman Catholic Church would rather that they, well, pull over.

Having homosexuals dressed up as women during the religious procession (Santacruzan) is “horrendous” and “defeats the real purpose” of the march, Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales on Tuesday said in a report released by the news website of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Santacruzan is derived from “Santa” (Spanish feminine for Holy) and “Cruz” (Cross). The Filipino suffix “an” apparently was added who knows when to “Cruz” to make it “Cruzan.” “Santa” also apparently was combined with “Cruzan,” later “cruzan,” ending up as “Santacruzan,” to mean an event highlighted by the search for the Holy Cross by an eminent person.

According to ancient religious history, that eminent person was Queen Helena of Constantinopole (now modern Turkey), who, along with his son Constantine The Great, looked near and far for the Holy Cross, supposedly the very one Jesus Christ died on in Calvary.

Filipinos, evidently, made a spectacle of that mission of Helena and Constantine. At first, reenactment of that search â€" during the merry month of May in the Philippines when flowers are supposedly abloom â€" was led by the “Emperatriz” (Empress, to refer to Queen Helena). Then came gay men playing the role of the Empress, with “woman” saints in tow who had been added to the entourage of the “Emperatriz,” apparently without regard for religious rhyme or reason.

That disregard, Cardinal Rosales said, does not make him “angry at gay men.” What does, he added, is “what they’re actually doing [during Santacruzans]. We should keep sacred what is sacred.”

Santacruzans of recent years featured gay men in designer gowns and, not surprisingly, were lapped up by those who watched them. They still do at present and apparently are seen as an exercise in democracy especially where representation of so-called marginalized sectors is concerned. Anyway, Queen Helena is supposed to be the Virgin Mary searching for the Holy Cross and to Jesus Christ’s mother are offered the flowers of May.

Not against gays

The bishops’ media director Msgr. Pedro Quitorio 3rd allowed that he was not against gay men taking part in Santacruzans as long as they showed “respect” to the centuries-old tradition of the search for the Holy Cross.

Showing respect, he said, was to uphold the fact that Queen Helena or the Virgin Mary is a woman and neither can be represented by men, gay or straight.

Better still, Quitorio added, for the gay community to call whatever procession they are holding by any other name, not Santacruzan, so as not to “confuse people.”

Danton Remoto, however, defended the gay men’s use of gowns during Santacruzans.

Ang Ladlad views

Remoto, the national chairman of Ang Ladlad, said that the gay men participating in Santacruzans are “transgenders [who] feel that they are women, and so in order for them to show their femininity, they wear women’s attire.”

Ang Ladlad espouses the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders.

Remoto also argued that the Santacruzans are sponsored by barangay (villages), and therefore they fall under the jurisdiction of the state, not the church.

He suggested that the local Roman Catholic Church focus more on the population explosion and the economic crisis rather than “sweat the small stuff.”

“As long as we are not doing anything illegal, we should not be censored,” Remoto said.

(enib doinu)

Great question. I'm glad you asked. Been asking the same for a long time now.

I'm a Manileno by birth; Balilihanon, Jagnaanon and Ilonggo (Iloilo) by blood affinity, Catigbianon by choice (and pride); Tagbilaranon in reality (where I really grew up) and an Orleanian (by latest choice) the rest of the way.  "Who am I?" (from Jackie Chan movie).

I guess, in my estimation are: (1) tagbilaran  (2) catigbian (3) cogon

No wonder my preferred names in UTube, etc. are: tagubilaan, tagbilaranbaun, cattailsville and chicogon (google-lable all!)

I had quite a few subjects in Botany, Plant Breeding and Weed Science while I was in college, that is why long time ago nakahibalo na ko kon unsay cattails ug unsay katigbi, and they are not one and the same plant species. You can surf the net for "cattails" (ikog sa iring) and "Job's tears" (katigbi) and you will know the big difference between the two plants. Sorry, but your teachers were wrong. Chic, if you are from Catigbian, please spread the correct information because I know most Catigbianons haven't even seen the plant and don't know its English name.

You still haven't given the name of Cattails in bisaya but ikog sa iring. Is there such a plant? And you also said people in Catigbian might not have even seen this plant (?). Or is it the real Katigbi (according to your description). How could that be? Pasabta ra ko ana, hahaha. Cattails (the image I sent) in Catigbian are abundant during the days of old and that's what they call Katigbi as they do now. Like I said it's folk's myth where I learned it from as well as from our teachers. It still is on their website. I think it should be you who should do the correcting ( but why now?) ... I'm busy teaching somewhere else hahaha!

Here's another new music from Bohol... My first Dear Jesus Video with Lorraine Hess singing - a new Christian music singer from New Orleans. I hope y'all like it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrUPkZ2MH_0

Here's the lyrics:

DEAR JESUS

Words and music by Rev. J. Roel Lungay

1
Dear Jesus, I love you
How I don't know
Please show me the way.

2
Dear Jesus, my Savior,
My friend, my Lord.
You're all that I want
And all that I need.

Refrain:
Take me with you, Oh Lord,
Carry me through
For in you, only in you
Can I find my peace.
Take me in your goodness, Lord
This I pray
Yes, in you, only in you,
Can I find my peace.

3
Dear Jesus, I love you
I come to you
Take good care of me.

4
Dear Jesus, I give you
My self, my soul -
All that I am and all that I'll be.

(Repeat Refrain twice)

Coda:
Dear Jesus, I thank you
And I love you!

Anyway, tampo ra god pod tong ako as to the origin of Catigbian. But I'm no expert in its history nor in plants. Kusog nuon ko mokaon utan hehehe. Anyway, here's one I found from the Catigbian site:

http://www.catigbian.gov.ph/history.php
#12184
Quote from: Koddi Prudente on May 11, 2009, 11:25:12 PM
The cattail plant (Scientific name: Typha latifolia) is not "katigbi" because it does not produce a beadlike hard seednut but a clump of small fruits developing from a dense cylindrical spike of flowers. Cattails are marsh-loving plants and they have flat leaves that are used in making rush mats, chair seats, handcrafted bags, etc. "Katigbi" (Scientific name: Coix lacryma-jobi) grow on dry land and have much shorter leaves. Its seed is already polished and has a hole through it.

Very good description of both plants and distinction between the two. But old folks back in Catigbian talk about this "katigbi" (cattails) which grows on watery "sapa" and "tributaries" of basak, as I mentioned earlier (see this image http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=TYLA  ) rather than this Coix lacryma-jobi that you're talking about. Not only that, it was taught to us by our teacher in a "show and tell" (amo paman ganing gipasiga morag "su" (fire torch) when we were Grade 1 or 2, unless she taught us wrong or the Catigbian people don't know what in the world they're talking about. You must be talking about something else... or you must be really a plant expert who could help Catigbianons clear their wrong perception all along, hahaha. But thanks for the observation.
#12185
Tampo pod ko usa. Catigbian from the word "Katigbi" which means in English "cattails" as in Kenny Rankin's "Pussywillow Cattails." ;D

Parehas ta: Martin N. is still one of my idols and favorite artist maski nagka edad-edaran napod. I didn't particularly like his rendition of the Lupang Hinirang pero what's the big deal?!! The boxing match was! Even more, Pacquiao's one-sided victory over "overrated" Hatton. Mao jud toy gibayran sa PPV, dili pagkanta sa atong National Anthem. Like what the other guy said, labon di nila imbistigahan tong mga more pressing issue like "graft and corruption" nga embedded na sa basic fabric of our society and culture, more so in politics and even in our church. Sus no! It's always easier to point fingers on somebody other than our own... huhuhu!

Here's one I just read from Freeman Cebu:

Bayang Magiliw, yodelly ho ho.

TO THE QUICK By Jerry Tundag Updated May 08, 2009 12:00 AM

It is no surprise that leftist Philippine partylist Representative Risa Hontiveros Baraquel saw nothing wrong in the way Filipino singer Martin Nievera mangled the Philippine National Anthem when he sang it during the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas.

If Baraquel see it fit to make a dress out of the Philippine flag and wear it during street demonstrations against the government, it should be no skin off her back if people sing the National Anthem in every which way they like.

What is disappointing, however, is when even supposedly right-thinking people begin to think like Baraquel and see nothing wrong in a National Anthem not sung the way it is meant to be sung, who will probably applaud anyone who sings it like ... “Bayang Magiliw yodelly ho ho.”

But then, something like this is bound to happen. As I have said many times before, there is hardly anything left sacred anymore in the Philippines. Why, people hardly stop anymore when the National Anthem is played.

There used to be a time when the National Anthem was played and sung in school every morning and every afternoon. They used to call it flag ceremony in the morning and flag retreat in the afternoon.

They do not do that anymore. Maybe it has become too much of a bother, this singing of the National Anthem. Maybe it is taking up too much time. And so the National Anthem is now played and sung only in the morning of Monday and in the afternoon of Friday.

To be sure, Martin Nievera had no intention of making a debauchery of the National Anthem. He probably just wanted to showcase a little artistry in his rendition, perhaps honestly believing that artistic license extends to all things, including national symbols.

But how many national symbols do we have? There are not very many of them, are there? So why can we not just let them be when we have so many others, millions perhaps, that we can subject to all sorts of modification and tampering?

Baraquel can throw rotten tomatoes at an effigy of her pet peeve Gloria Arroyo and not suffer a wee bit for it. After all, while Arroyo may be the president, it is her office that is actually sacred.

Or maybe Nievera can make fun of the way his former wife Pops Fernandez modified her lips, and all that he will probably suffer for it is to get ostracized by her fans. But the Filipino nation never got diminished by the turnout of their fabled marriage.

Still the controversy is not even about Nievera because he is just one singer. There have been others who similarly tried to ape the Americans when it comes to distorting their own national anthem.

But let us not always try to approximate the Americans because, at the appropriate time, they can always rally behind their country in a manner and intensity that we Filipinos can never hope to match.

And so, while there are still some things left sacred in this country, maybe we should try to keep them that way. For once we lose them, once we lose sight of why they are sacred, we will never be able to recover the feeling.

Even without any law, plain common sense dictates you do not trifle with the National Anthem. But then maybe it is too late, judging by how it was the National Historical Institute instead that got criticized for calling the attention of Nievera to the wrong he has done.

Next time we get insulted, as when the Thais called us cheats in the SEA Games, let us just bow our heads. If we cannot put a frigging centavo’s worth on the National Anthem, more so for an even shakier national reputation.

For the faithful Christian this is never an issue - Jesus is the only way to heaven because He said so and as Bible Christians we put our faith to it. We take His word for it. And the only logical reason I could find (of course, faith is really what helps us rise above our inability to reason sometimes!) is what they have Jesus saying in the gospels that "those who are His hear His voice... because they belong to His flock." Needless to say, if one is not a member of His flock and would rather live outside the family circle (The Body of Christ) will find this very strange or even foreign to them no matter how much explaining one does. And that goes the same way if they try to explain their belief-system to us, Christians. Am I making sense?

Been so busy, Father, kay Feed the needy day man ang Wednesday, unya daghan pa laing mga aktibidadis.

Hala ka, nag suicide jud?  Pila man edad, Father?  This is strange.  A daughter of a very close friend of my aunt in CDO also committed suicide the other day. She was such a dedicated mother. The ending was: pag ayo2x mo!

Pastilan mga bataa oi!

Mao bitaw. Buotan sad ni bataa, never a problem child. Wala joy indication nga mohimo ani nga buhata but he did. He left messages to family and friends saying how much he loved them and bid goodbye. 39 edad ani niya, olitawo, good looking and good job; good pc technician and always smiling. Nalooy ko sa nahabilin kay dako kaau impact on their part. The least we coud do is pray. Nahitabo ni last Saturday pag Santacruzan namo deri sa New Orleans.
