hello all,
glad to be back from a short absence as am on an emergency business trip in the Philippines that would last for more than a week...got a chance to browse though can't hand around for long... would love to meet TB members based in Bohol when I could find time next week.. will advise.

can't help but feel sad and get upset with what one of our "believed well composed TB members" got the nerve to do a foul disposition. However, this is a learning opportunity for us...

Mike you've done great efforts...as the cliche goes " All what you will give, will come back to your own"... good day to all.

Sir Jun, please do. :)

The task is overwhelming but, at least, we don't have to solve it in one night by ourselves.  Hinay-hinay, basta kanunay.

Don't worry.  I think Mike has covered pretty much all expletives that there are.  Which brings into question how chaste he is in thought and how considerable his exposure to these words have been. ;D hehehe
#1222
No offense taken, Ma'am C2H4.

I believe that much of it is in our history and, yes, even in the many cultures that we've come in contact with or whose blood have been infused in our own.  It does seem that whatever binds us together seems very flimsy, even inexistent, but we must find it otherwise there is no reason for the Philippines to remain as it is.  I would like to believe that that reason still exists.  Any people or peoples that chooses to become a nation must at least try to be one and not just give up at the first sign of a challenge or even if the challenges seem endless.

But this is also true in many other countries, Ma'am C2H4.  Yes, we identify ourselfves and others by the region or province we come from but isn't this what Bavarians do in Germany?  What Basques do in Spain and France?  What Okinawans do in Japan?  What Sikhs do in India?  In fact, I find it remarkable (and I am thankful for this) that we still haven't gone through civil war.  As Boholanos, there is much that distinguishes us from other Filipinos but I am sure that there is also much to bind us together.

One other thing that came to the fore at that EB was just how fantastic, and creepy, Melrose's memory can be.  Prior to the EB, Melrose had noted that Mari seemed familiar.  It was at Brewpoint that she remembered that we and Mari had come by the same house during the Loon fiesta.  Melrose even remembered what Mari wore.  Talk about photographic memory.  Scary.

what the people need now is "values' redirection"...a reformist vision on individual outlook towards patriotism, loving one country and community...

I agree with you, sir.  There is not even much respect for the flag or the national anthem anymore.  Sometimes you see a flag, faded and tattered, and left in the rain.  Sometimes you meet people, supposedly professional, who forget entire stanzas of the Lupang Hinirang.  It is as if people are ashamed to take pride in what symbolizes the Filipino.  Patriotism is not what it used to be.

The photosafari (a long-time suggestion of boholrepublic) may be from Tagbilaran to Anda, going by the southeastern route or (and this will take longer) going by the west-north-east route around the province.  Or how about we try the interior?  Anyway, we'll post further details once they get settled.

As the plans stand: the photosafari can be on Saturday morning and afternoon, we can have a solidarity night in the evening, and we hit the beach on Sunday morning.  Comments?  Suggestions?  Violent reactions? :-\

p.s. Melrose proposes that we hold the EB on the third Saturday and Sunday of December.

hello guys /gals,

I want to share how the best dinumugan of my mom is being prepared:  there are two types of dinumugan ( from hinog nga saging ), kanang pinutos sa dahon sa saging ug pinutus sa dahon sa lubi or lukay kay gihimong puso (pero dili pareho sa kagamay pagkabuhat nga gisudlan og kan-on), it is the puso that when it is cooked, the size is equivalent to a slice bread.

how this is prepared:

panitan ang hinog nga saging, magkagod of lubi, mag-galing ug bugas, mag preprepare ug pula nga sugar.

kon maluto na, kuhaon ni siya sa sudlanan at ibitay in free air ( if being put in puso ) or just in plate if wrapped in banana leaf.

this is a special type of dinumugan....

Jokes and Humor / Re: The True Story of Inday
September 26, 2007, 06:02:33 PM
Inday: Stop your raucous behavior. It is bound to result in property damage and if that happens there will be corresponding punishment to be inflicted upon you!

Junior: Bakit kaya sya umalis?
Inday: Sometimes, people choose to leave not because of selfish reasons but because they just know that things will get worse if they'll stay. Leaving can be a tough act, and it's harder when people can't understand you for doing so.
Junior: [tuloy ang pagdugo ng ilong]

Nung gabing yon, me nag text ke Inday.
Inday: To forestall further hopes of acquaintance, here is my unfathomable statement with regard to your request - Petition denied.

Inday: The statute restricts me to love you but you have the provocations. The way you smile is the proximate cause why I love you. We have some rules to think of. We have no vested rights to love each other because the upper household dismissed my petition!

Dodong: Perhaps you are mistaken.  The sentiments from which you seem to contrive any indication of my affection for you are, in truth, somewhat half-hearted. I was merely attempting to expand my network of interests by involving you in my daily recreation. Heretofore, you can expect an end to any verbal articulation from myself.

Basurero (sabi ke Inday): Be careful in letting go of the things you think are insignificant because maybe someday you'll realize that the one you gave away is the very thing you've been wishing for to stay.
Amo: [nagpakamatay]

Inday:  It’s not that I’m trying to compete with the professionals and I am not totally avoiding speaking in the vernacular.  It is just that circumstances necessitate that I speak in English, otherwise I will not be able to fully accomplish my job to the satisfaction of my conscience.

Amo: Bakit me bukol si junior?
Inday: Compromising safety with useless aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered architectural design of our kitchen lavatory affected the boy's cranium and left him with a slight contusion at the left temple near the auditory organ.
Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

Kinagabihan, habang naghahapunan.
Amo: Bakit maalat ang ulam?
Inday: The consistency was fine. But, you see, it seems that the increased amount of sodium chloride (NaCl) affected the taste drastically and those actions are irreversible. I do apologize.

Inday: Because I don't want you to see me doing absolutely nothing.
Donya: [hinimatay]

Inday: That's absurd! It has not been established as a fact that he initiated the fight! I can only imagine how you handle schizophrenic kids on this educational institution! Revise your policies because they suck!
Principal: [nag-resign]

Inday: A change in the weather patterns might have occurred, wreaking havoc on the surroundings. The way the debris are scattered indicates that the gust of wind was going northeast causing damage along the general direction to which it was heading.
Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

Inday:  Off you go!  Under no circumstances will this house relent to such an unabashed display of vagrant destitution!

I think this one should have its own thread.  Espeicially since I have read some stories of Inday that aren't in here and which you could probably add to this.  I would like to think that the story of Inday highlights how superior Visayan facility for the English language is over that of any other region. hehehe ;D

The True Story of Inday

STORY:
Inday: I believe that my trained skills and expertise in management with the use of standard tools, and my discipline and experience will contribute significantly to the value of the work that you want. My creativity, productivity and work-efficiency and the high quality of outcomes I can offer will boost the work progress.
Amo: [nosebleed]

Ay, Inglesera ka pala… would you please buy many fishes from the market for this week’s meals?
Inday: Judging by your statement, I believe you meant a variety of fish.  The term “fishes,” although rarely used, connotes a plethora of different kinds of the said gilled aquatic creatures.  But the more pressing questions before I proceed to the wet market would be: What type of fish?  Fillet or not?  Frozen or fresh?  (pauses)  Ah…given the meager budget afforded by this household’s quasi-peasant class taste, I assume that I shall be sourcing out the staple “ga-lewng-gung?”  Am I correct?
Amo: Ah, leche!  (sabay nosebleed)

"Ilawg ka sa tirong" is a reference that goes back to the culture of mutual inter-island payao raids that was pervading in the pre-Hispanic Philippine archipelago, although it was still true during Spanish colonial times.  Which is why the "moros" have been singled out.  It should be noted that our forefathers conducted these raids for many reasons: making war, taking slaves, pillaging and looting villages, taking revenge, and even to forcibly take wives.

The hatches in which they kept their captives were called "tirong."  And, thus, "ilawg ka sa tirong" could basically mean that one will be captured by the raiders and imprisoned in a "tirong."  However, a people that settled in the islands of Leyte and Samar were once referred as "tirones" and, alternatively, the term "tirong" could refer to them.

...greater enforcement on the Comelec's part; additionally, there should be added enforcement in voting areas in Muslim Mindanao.

Yes, the conduct of the elections in Muslim Mindanao in the last two general elections have been very controversial and crucial.  Let's hope that in the next election people will be more watchful of their ballots and of election officials.

Mike, kanus-a man? ;D

It's still too soon to give up on a Philippines governed by Filipinos, Mike.  We are still a young democracy.  We may be a sham as a functional democracy, since our national policies are dictated by the interests of powerful businessmen and by far more powerful countries, but we're barely 50 years old and are still in our growing pains.

Personally, here are some electoral reforms I'd like to see: the return of the literacy requirement for one to exercise the right to vote; college degree requirement for candidates; return of the two-party system; regular updating of voters list; re-definition of residence and domicile; clarifying grounds and streamlining procedures for electoral protest.

What are yours?

Ok ra pud, Vids.  Kung kita ray manganha, at least we'd be able to test if there's a clamor for the EB.  But what if in that meeting dako na ang turn-out daan?  Besides it's never about the quantity of people who'll come.  It's the quality.  :)

LGU Philippines / What electoral reforms do you suggest?
September 24, 2007, 01:24:17 PM
We all know of the problems that plague Philippine elections.  What reforms do you suggest to resolve some, if not all, of them?

Melrose, Mari, GEC348, Sir Delaguna, and volunteers:

May I suggest that everyone who wants to help set up the EB meet this Saturday (September 29) at 3:00 in the afternoon at Brewpoint?  (Kanya-kanyang bayad kung mo-order. ;))  We can discuss in this thread if we need to reschedule this meeting.

Sir Delaguna, kaila ka naho.  And I think you already know who I am. :)

"Why Men Love Bitches"?  I don't know about that.  I would leave the literal bitches to the dogs.  A figurative bitch to me would be someone whose personality is a lot like Malu Fernandez's and I certainly wouldn't want someone like that.  Personally, I like nice girls who can be naughty. :D

:'(  Sadly, it is.  There are people who don't even care about what they are thinking or saying or of the effect that it will have on society.  But I am hoping that this situation is still reversible. :)

...It is so symbolic and if I’m not mistaken it is inside one of Dagohoy’s cave. It represents hope, light at the end of the tunnel. I guess you personally took that picture from inside the cave ....

Sir Macky, thanks.  I don't know if Lamanoc (as it is vandalized on the cave wall by members of the National Historical Institute in the early 80s themselves, although I prefer spelling it Lamanok) was one of the caves used by Dagohoy and his forces.

It is located in an island of the same name in the far eastern part of Bohol, off of the Anda Peninsula.  There are caves there were one can see prehistoric hematite paintings.  It is for these paintings and many other archaeological relics found in Lamanok ( :)) that Anda is hailed as the "Cradle of Civilization of Bohol."  Ironically, most of these relics and artifacts are in the basement of the National Museum branch in Butuan City. :(

Since it is far from the highlands of Bohol, it may be unlikely that it was used as one of Dagohoy's outposts.  But, then again, based on the same argument of its inaccessibility or of at least being difficult to penetrate, it may well have been (The caves of Camira and Inaghuban (two of the many cave systems that Dagohoy used) are themselves situated in difficult terrain.).  Someone will have to do further research on that. :)

And yes, the picture was taken inside the cave. :)
