Brewed black coffee offers a surprising number of health benefits, thanks in part to its high concentration of caffeine and antioxidants. Here are some of the most notable benefits:

* May Boost Metabolism and Aid Weight Management: Black coffee is calorie-free and may help increase your metabolism, which can aid in weight management. Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, increasing your heart rate and metabolism. This can cause you to burn more calories at rest.

* Improves Physical Performance: Caffeine can improve physical performance by increasing alertness and reducing fatigue. It also helps to mobilize fatty acids from your fat tissues, making them available for use as energy during exercise.

* May Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes: Studies have shown that regular coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Coffee may improve insulin sensitivity and help your body regulate blood sugar levels.

* May Protect Against Certain Cancers: Some studies suggest that coffee drinkers may have a lower risk of developing certain types of cancer, such as liver cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.

* May Promote Brain Health: Coffee may help protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Caffeine may improve cognitive function and alertness.
* Rich in Antioxidants: Black coffee is a good source of antioxidants, which can help protect your cells from damage and reduce inflammation.

Important to Note: While black coffee offers many potential health benefits, it's important to drink it in moderation.  For most healthy adults, up to 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine per day is safe. That's roughly 4 cups (960 mL) of brewed coffee. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor about how much caffeine is safe for you.

Bible Study / Scientific Death of Jesus Christ
March 30, 2024, 04:10:17 AM

Scientific Death of Jesus

For the next 60 seconds, set aside whatever you're doing and take this opportunity! Let's see if Satan can stop this.

At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to death.

At the time, crucifixion was the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals were condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus. Unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion, Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by His hands and feet.

Each nail was 6 to 8 inches long.

The nails were driven into His wrist, not into His palms as is commonly portrayed. There's a tendon in the wrist that extends to the shoulder. The Roman guards knew that when the nails were being hammered into the wrist, that tendon would tear and break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support Himself so that He could breathe.

Both of His feet were nailed together. Thus He was forced to support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross. Jesus could not support Himself with His legs because of the pain so He was forced to alternate between arching His back then using His legs just to continue to breathe. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage.

Jesus endured this reality for over 3 hours.

Yes, over 3 hours! Can you imagine this kind of suffering? A few minutes before He died,
Jesus stopped bleeding. He was simply pouring water from his wounds.

From common images we see wounds to His hands and feet and even the spear wound to His side... But do we realize His wounds were actually made in his body. A hammer driving large nails through the wrist, the feet overlapped and an even larger nail hammered through the arches, then a Roman guard piercing His side with a spear. But before the nails and the spear, Jesus was whipped and beaten. The whipping was so severe that it tore the flesh from His body. The beating so horrific that His face was torn and his beard ripped from His face. The crown of thorns cut deeply into His scalp. Most men would not have survived this torture.

He had no more blood to bleed out, only water poured from His wounds. The human adult body contains about 3.5 liters (just less than a gallon) of blood.

Jesus poured all 3.5 liters of his blood; He had three nails hammered into His members; a crown of thorns on His head and, beyond that, a Roman soldier who stabbed a spear into His chest..

All these without mentioning the humiliation He suffered after carrying His own cross for almost 2 kilometers, while the crowd spat in his face and threw stones (the cross was almost 30 kg of weight, only for its higher part, where His hands were nailed).

Jesus had to endure this experience, to open the gates of Heaven, so that you can have free access to God.

So that your sins could be "washed" away. All of them, with no exception! Don't ignore this situation.

JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOU!

He died for you! It is easy to pass jokes or foolish photos by e-mail, but when it comes to God, sometimes you feel ashamed to forward to others because you are worried of what they may think about you.

God has plans for you, show all your friends what He experienced to save you. Now think about this! May God bless your life!

If you are not ashamed to do this, please, follow Jesus' instructions. He said (Matthew 10:32 & 33): "Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge
before My Father in heaven; but whosoever denies Me before others, I will deny before My Father in heaven."🙏

General Topic / China Collapse Theory
March 29, 2024, 08:24:35 AM

President Xi Jinping: China did not collapse as predicted by the "China collapse theory," nor will it peak as forecasted by the"China peak theory."

On March 27, President Xi met with representatives of the U.S. business, strategic and academic communities at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. President Xi pointed out that the Chinese economy is sound and sustainable. Last year, China registered one of the highest growth rates among the major economies and accounted for over 30 percent of global growth as before. China is planning and implementing a series of major steps for comprehensively deepening reform, and steadily fostering a market-oriented, law-based and world-class business environment. This will create broader development space for U.S. and other foreign businesses. U.S. businesses are welcome to participate more in Belt and Road cooperation, attend large-scale business events such as the China International Import Expo, and continue to invest in China, cultivate the market and grow their business.

In their remarks, Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations Evan G. Greenberg and other representatives expressed confidence that China will realize its development goals and contribute to a stronger, more integrated global economy. Sharing close economic ties, the United States and China can only develop and thrive in peaceful coexistence. The Thucydides trap is not inevitable. The U.S. business, strategic and academic communities support the United States and China in bolstering exchanges and communication at all levels, enhancing mutual understanding, trust and cooperation, joining hands to address global challenges, and fostering a stable, sustainable and productive U.S.-China relationship.

Facts and Trivia / Oldest Place on Earth
March 20, 2024, 03:42:53 PM
The oldest place on planet Earth is in Venezuela and it is called Mount Roraima Mount Roraima, in Venezuela One of the most beautiful and impressive natural wonders in the world For more than 500 years, scientists around the world have attempted to decipher the unique geological origin of Mount Roraima, southern Venezuela. In addition to rising almost 3,000 meters above sea level, the mountain has an unnatural morphology, which seems to have been cut with knives due to the precision of its million-year-old angles. This rock formation is the largest of its kind in all of South America, and is part of the Pakaraima mountain range. For more than 5 centuries, it has intrigued historians, geologists and other scientists because it is a mountain without a point. The top of Mount Roraima is completely horizontal, and occupies an area of more than 30 square kilometers, surrounded by waterfalls, cliffs and other rare geographical features in the world. Seen this way, it could be considered an island in the heights. Mount Roraima is home to a great diversity of endemic plant and animal species. Geologists and biologists from around the world estimate that it hides some of the species that science has no record of, since there are spaces in the mountain that still remain unexplored. 𝙎𝙪 𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣 𝙚𝙨 𝙪𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤. It is thought that Mount Roraima was the product of a large earthquake in the past. However, its origin is not certain, since geological features that were created in similar ways do not have that shape. This has led scientists to think that it may be the oldest rock formation on Earth.

𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 '𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿' 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟲, 𝟭𝟱𝟮𝟭.

At the dawn of Saturday, Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan, who led a Spanish expedition, saw above the horizon the towering heights of Samar. This was the 'rediscovery' of the Philippines. Ferdinand Magellan called the place the Archipelago de San Lazaro.

Contrary to the romanticized tale of Magellan 'discovering' the Philippines in 1521, it's vital to remember that the islands thrived long before his arrival.

Magellan's journey was just a slice of European exploration, but the Philippines were already a hub of diverse cultures.

While his arrival brought change, like Christianity and new technologies, let's not overlook the thriving communities pre-existing his visit.

Correcting this misconception is crucial for historical accuracy and to honor indigenous heritage, fostering appreciation for all cultures involved.

Here are 10 Lessons from "The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control: A Path to Peace and Power" by Katherine Morgan Schafler

Introduction: "The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control" by Katherine Morgan Schafler is a transformative book that delves into the journey of letting go of perfectionism and finding peace and power in embracing vulnerability and imperfection. Through insightful anecdotes and practical strategies, Schafler offers guidance on how to break free from the grips of perfectionism. Here are 10 key lessons from the book:

1. Recognize the detrimental effects of perfectionism: The book highlights the negative impact of perfectionism on our mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. Schafler encourages readers to acknowledge and understand the harmful consequences of striving for unattainable perfection.

2. Embrace vulnerability: Embracing vulnerability is a crucial step in overcoming perfectionism. The book explores the power of vulnerability and how it can lead to greater connection, authenticity, and personal growth.

3. Challenge unrealistic expectations: Perfectionists often set impractical standards for themselves. Schafler guides readers in examining their expectations, helping them identify and challenge unrealistic beliefs to cultivate a healthier mindset.

4. Cultivate self-compassion: Self-compassion is a key antidote to perfectionism. The book emphasizes the importance of being kind, understanding, and forgiving towards oneself, fostering a sense of acceptance and self-worth.

5. Embrace mistakes and failures: Perfectionists tend to fear mistakes and failures. Schafler encourages readers to reframe their perspective on mistakes and failures as opportunities for growth, learning, and resilience.

6. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is a powerful tool in breaking free from perfectionism. The book explores how being present and non-judgmental can help individuals cultivate self-awareness, reduce anxiety, and let go of the need for control.

7. Emphasize progress over perfection: Instead of fixating on perfection, the book encourages readers to shift their focus to progress. Schafler illustrates the importance of celebrating small victories and acknowledging personal growth along the way.

8. Let go of external validation: Perfectionists often seek external validation for their worth. Schafler guides readers in shifting their focus to internal validation, emphasizing the importance of self-approval and self-validation.

9. Build a support system: The book highlights the significance of surrounding oneself with supportive and understanding individuals. Schafler offers guidance on establishing a network of people who can provide encouragement and perspective during the journey of letting go of perfectionism.

10. Embrace imperfection as strength: The ultimate lesson of the book is to embrace imperfection as a source of strength and authenticity. Schafler encourages readers to let go of the need for control and perfection, allowing room for vulnerability, growth, and the true expression of oneself.

In the North Atlantic Ocean, 200 miles north of the United Kingdom, is an enchanting volcanic archipelago called the Faroe Islands. It's a fascinating place unlike any other on earth.

The population is small – roughly 54,000 people – most of whom can trace their lineage to Old Norse-speaking settlers who arrived in the early 9th century.

They're outnumbered by sheep. 70,000 of the animals reside here, and they're put to work – many houses in the Faroes have grass roofs, and sheep are used as living lawnmowers. Other animals love it here, too. Over 100 different species of birds call these islands home.

As you can tell, the scenery is breathtaking. Distinctive mountains climb high above the North Atlantic's dark swirling waters. It's a landscape defined by fiords – you're never further than 3 miles from the sea in the Faroe Islands.

The weather is harsh. Expect strong winds and heavy rain throughout the year. Its northerly location has a big impact on the length of its days, too. In summer, it never gets darker than dusk in the Faroes; there are almost 20 hours of daylight. In winter, it's the opposite. Days are short and dark, with just 5 hours of light to enjoy the views.

IMMIGRATION GUIDE & TIPS
+ Required Documents the I.O. ( IMMIGRATION OFFICER )
May Ask For
1.) Prepare your documents.
These are the documents you will need for your trip:
• A valid passport (at least six months validity at the time of departure)
• A Round Trip Ticket and Boarding Pass
• An e-Travel Declaration (from etravel.gov.ph)
• For DIY tourists, hotel booking confirmation and receipts.
• For members of a tour group, the travel agency booking/agreement, and a copy of your itinerary.
Be ready to answer questions from the IO about your itinerary and why you want to visit those places.
• For minors not traveling with either parent, a DSWD Travel Clearance.
• A duly authenticated Marriage Certificate in case the IO wants to verify the relationship of couples.
• A duly authenticated Birth Certificate for verification of children.
• A Travel Authority for government employees.
• A Certificate of Employment and Leave of Absence for private employees.
• A Business Permit/DTI Permit (if the source of income is a business)
• A work Contract and OEC from POEA if you are an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW)
• A visa for those traveling to a country where a visa is required.
2.) The interview is crucial.
It can make or break your departure.
• Provide consistent, clear and confident answers. The IO may repeat questions to test if you are telling the truth.
• Answer questions in a respectful and confident manner.
• Listen carefully. Don't interrupt the IO and wait for him to be finished. Provide honest answers while maintaining your composure.
3.) Dress modestly.
Wear clothes that say you are a respectable traveler even you are free to dress as you please.
For the first time travelers, especially for women, choose clothes that are not too revealing.
Showing too much skin may give the IO the impression that you may be a sex worker.
This is a red flag and will cause your offloading.
4.) IO's are strict with solo travelers.
Be especially prepared if you're young, female, single, or a recent graduate and traveling solo.
Make sure to bring all necessary documents with you.
IO's scrutinize women more than any other gender because they are the most common victims of human trafficking.
5.) Immigration Officers profile passengers.
IOs are trained in body language.
And they profile you even if you're still waiting in line.
6.)   The IO may check your financial capacity to fund your trip.
This is especially true if you are jobless or your job isn't permanent.
• If you are unemployed, prepare to prove how you will be paying for your trip.
• If your travel is sponsored, bring a notarized Affidavit of Support and Guarantee.
• If your sponsor is from the country you are visiting, bring a Letter of Invitation authenticated by the Philippine consulate or embassy in your destination.
7.) Know the basic information about your sponsor.
The IO will test how well you know your sponsor and how you are related to him or her.
Be familiar with complete names and addresses.
8.) Be familiar with your travel history.
The IO may ask you about past travels that may be in their file.
Be truthful with your answer.
If you cannot recall something about it, then them you cannot remember rather than lie and get caught doing so.
9.)   If you have been offloaded before, this is a red flag.
You should know beforehand how to handle questions about it and what may have changed since then so that the IO will no longer doubt the purpose of your travel this time.
10.)   Your attitude is the key.
Be polite during your conversation.
Don't ever argue with the Immigration Officer.
Remember, he holds the key to your trip at that point.

Inspiration & Hope / Leaders Eat Last: Lessons
March 05, 2024, 07:13:11 AM
10 Lessons from "Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't":

1. Leaders need to foster a "Circle of Safety" within the team, where individuals feel secure, supported, and empowered to take risks without fear of blame or punishment.

2. True leadership is about serving the needs of the team, not about personal gain or self-promotion. Leaders prioritize the well-being and success of their team members.

3. Trust is the foundation of any successful team. Leaders build trust by being honest, transparent, and accountable for their actions.

4. Leaders must be willing to be vulnerable and show their human side. This fosters connection and authenticity within the team.

5. Leaders demonstrate their commitment to the team by being willing to share in the sacrifices and challenges they face.

6. Effective leaders empower their team members to take ownership, make decisions, and learn from their mistakes.

7. Instead of strict hierarchical structures, leaders create a "biological" hierarchy where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their position.

8. Success is celebrated collectively, not just by individual team members. This fosters a sense of shared purpose and accomplishment.

9. Leaders need to clearly identify the external challenges and threats the team faces, unifying them against a common enemy.

10. Leaders put the needs of their team members above their own, demonstrating their commitment to their well-being and success.

Philippine Daily News / RTB 30 Issuance
March 02, 2024, 10:45:21 AM
ICYMI: The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) issued a total of PHP 584.86 billion in 5-Year Retail Treasury Bonds (RTB 30) with a coupon of 6.25% per annum. To mark the issuance, RTB 30 was formally listed on the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Board on February 28, 2024.

Interest for the issuance poured throughout the auction and the public offer period, with the initial offering going 19 times oversubscribed from the minimum issue size of PHP 30 billion.

This allowed the Auction Committee to award PHP 212.72 billion at the rate-setting auction held last 13 February 2024. During the nine-day offer period, an additional PHP 372.14 billion orders came in, of which PHP 128.69 billion was raised in new money and PHP 243.45 billion through the Switch Program.

To date, RTB 30 has the highest participation rate of more than 30% in bonds exchanged. Through the BTr's online and app-based investment channels, retail investors from over 40 countries generated a record volume of PHP 663.56 million from 8,120 transactions. The remarkable reception of the RTB 30 allowed the BTr to exceed its initial target of PHP 400 billion for the transaction.

Inspiration & Hope / You start dying slowly
February 26, 2024, 02:42:31 PM
You start dying slowly ;
if you do not travel,
if you do not read,
If you do not listen to the sounds of life,
If you do not appreciate yourself.
You start dying slowly :
When you kill your self-esteem,
When you do not let others help you.
You start dying slowly ;
If you become a slave of your habits,
Walking everyday on the same paths...
If you do not change your routine,
If you do not wear different colours
Or you do not speak to those you don't know.
You start dying slowly :
If you avoid to feel passion
And their turbulent emotions;
Those which make your eyes glisten
And your heart beat fast.
You start dying slowly :
If you do not risk what is safe for the uncertain
If you do not go after a dream
If you do not allow yourself
At least once in your lifetime
To run away from sensible advice
Don't let yourself die slowly
Do not forget to be happy!
~ Pablo Neruda♡
Chilean poet who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971

Inspiration & Hope / Ancient Chinese Legend of a Mother
February 15, 2024, 04:04:03 AM
"There is an ancient Chinese legend of a mother whose son died. The mother went to an old sage and asked him for a magic potion to bring her son back to life so she could get beyond her paralyzing grief. The sage said that for such a potion he needed her to bring him a mustard seed from a home that had never known sorrow or loss. So she set out to find such a seed. She went from house to house; but regardless of where she went, whether a mansion or a hut, every home had known sorrow and loss. As she heard people tell her of their losses, she thought to herself, 'who better to help these grieving people than I, who have lost my son?' So she spent time in each home, listening and helping those who had loved and lost. She never found the mustard seed, but it no longer mattered. Her loss changed her in a way that enabled her to help others. In a small way, this non-Christian story points us to what Jesus wants His followers to do for those who have suffered and lost. Our sufferings should first take us to the foot of the cross. Then, after we have been healed and restored, we should find ourselves better equipped to help lead others to Jesus." Pastor ED REA

Talk of the Town / Panglao Bohol Reclamation Issue
February 11, 2024, 06:01:20 PM
By Sunday Post 2011 Published

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol virtually "drove the final nail to the coffin" of the Panglao reclamation plan in a protracted battle by a proponent to rise above partisan consideration as the law-making body deliberated the project's viability in economic and political terms.

But all efforts of Noris Oculam, main player of the project and the man behind Oasis Leisure Islands and Development Inc. (OLIDI), came to naught when the highly-partisan SP wrote finis to his pet project. In his appeal to SP, Oculam sought the conduct of an environmental study to find out if it affected economically and environmentally all stakeholders in the project. Sought for his reaction, Oculam said it was unfortunate that he was caught in the political crossfire of partisan interest. It was widely surmised that what put Oculam in an uncompromising situation as he pushed for the approval of the project was his close association with former governor Erico Aumentado now second district congressman. In fact, the first order of business of the SP committee that delivered the "knockout punch" of OLIDI's reclamation bid, was the cancellation of the joint venture agreement between the proponent and the former governor who represented the province then.

With the fate of his project in limbo Oculam is thinking of resorting to legal means if only to redeem his pet baby from its death bed. In dealing the final blow to the project, the SP approved the three measures recommended by the joint environment-tourism committee contained in report number 2011-03 dated Nov. 29, 2011 during the regular session presided over by Vice-Gov. Concepcion Lim last Friday. It approved a provincial resolution cancelling and/or rescinding through the Governor's office the "Joint Venture Development Agreement entered into with OLIDI." According to the death warrant of the project, the same proposal "presents a clear and present danger to the healthy biodiversity and sensitive marine environment within the offshore area of Panglao Bay," Under the second measure, an authority was given to the governor's office to "withdraw the application for reclamation filed with the Philippines Reclamation Authority".

According to Board Member Abeleon Damalerio, chair of the environment committee, in his joint report, the SP also approved the third resolution "opposing the establishment of any form of reclamation within the shores of Panglao Island,". Damalerio, tourism committee chair Godofreda Tirol, tourism vice chair Romulo Cepedoza and environment committee member Dr. Beinvenido Molina signed the eight- page joint committee report. Board Member Gerardo Garcia did not affix his signature in the report as certified by stenographers Josefina Gulle, Diodora Acedo and attested by committee secretary Romeo Jaum.

Far from over

Oculam, in a phone interview Friday, said that the fight is not over yet, saying OLIDI won't take the issue sitting down. He said the move of the provincial board was expected from the very beginning. He added that he will convene OLIDI's board of directors to tackle the issue and take the necessary steps given the SP ruling.

GROUNDS

SP's junking of the proposed reclamation project was based on lengthy narrative based on legal, social/economic and environmental considerations as reported by Damalerio. Contrary to claims, the SP which described the project as "a juicy proposal," found that it is "grossly disadvantageous transaction since the province has "totally surrendered its environmental and zoning responsibilities" to the project proponent. In addition, the SP said that the province "will be incurring costs" that are not being considered by the proponent. OLIDI, SP said, "is not qualified to undertake" the project since it has no track record being just newly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with capitalization of only Php12 million.

SP also relied on the recommendations of the group of concerned Boholanos composed of "physical, economic, political scientists and legal experts," who also expressed opposition to the project. Even before the environmental or feasibility study could take place as requested by the proponent, they have this to say. "We are among those vehemently opposed to such reclamation project, knowing fully well the breadth of its potentially damaging ecological impacts. Its impact on marine biodiversity in the area, not to mention other unforeseen effects because of human interference with the natural sea currents along a narrow channel (in the site, the Panglao Bay alluded to above among our provisos, where said project is proposed to be located) are extremely worrisome."

On legal effects, the SP also argued that the authority given to then governor Aumentado "was only for negotiation." "No subsequent Resolution was passed by the (SP) before for the governor to enter into and sign the JVDA." Hence, it concluded that the JVDA "is unenforceable against the provincial government" and OLIDI "cannot demand from the current administration confirmation of the reclamation phase." SP's opposition to stop the project has reinforced the contention of Panglao lawmakers when the latter passed Municipal Resolution No. 140, 2011, series of 2010 on October 10, 2010, "strongly opposing the establishment of any form of reclamation projects within the municipal waters of Panglao, Bohol," considering that the area where the project is to be undertaken is "haven of coral diversity and a sanctuary of diverse marine resources. Earlier, the past SP ( 2007-2010) had passed provincial Resolution No. 2009-633, "authorizing the then governor Erico Aumentado to represent the provincial government of Bohol and enter into a negotiation for a joint venture and development agreement (JVDA) with the Oasis Leisure Islands Development Inc. on the proposed reclamation project, off Panglao Bay, Panglao, Bohol, provided, however, that the provisions and amendment to the JVDA as proposed by the provincial legal office shall be made an integral part of the same (JVDA)."

This became the basis of the OLIDI to pursue the project even as it is amenable for the conduct first of the feasibility study as required by the afore-quoted Resolution. No. 2009-633. Resolution No. 2009-633 provides Bohol environment policy should be the guiding principle in pursuing the project, including the province's commitment to growth and conservation of its natural resources and compliance with the relevant environmental regulations and other legal pre-requisites. Also, then governor Aumentado said in his letter-endorsement to the SP that "no reclamation activity will be commenced unless appropriate social preparation activities among the stakeholders and affected persons shall have been conducted.' He also pointed out that the conduct of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) must be adhered and Environmental Compliance Certificate issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

General Topic / Hyperion World's Tallest Tree
February 11, 2024, 08:29:43 AM
HYPERION - World's Tallest Known Living Tree, Rising Above the Rest The largest patch of old-growth redwood forest, located in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, California, United States
Hyperion is a coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) that was measured at 115.92 m (380.3 ft), which ranks it as the world's tallest known living tree.
Hyperion was discovered on August 25, 2006, by naturalists Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor. It was found in a remote area of Redwood National Park that was part of the original 1968 park boundaries.
It is estimated to be 600 to 800 years old and contain 530 m3 (18,600 cu ft) of wood.
The exact location of Hyperion is nominally secret. However, In July 2022, the Redwood Park superintendent closed the entire area around the tree, citing "devastation of the habitat surrounding Hyperion" caused by visitors, and now anyone who gets too close could face up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. (Wikipedia)
Researchers have said that woodpecker activity at the top may have prevented the tree from growing taller.

General Topic / Gemini vs ChatGPT-4
February 11, 2024, 07:47:37 AM
Both Gemini and ChatGPT-4 are powerful language models, and determining which is "better" depends entirely on your specific needs and priorities.expand_more Here's a breakdown of their strengths and weaknesses to help you decide:

Strengths of Gemini:

Reasoning: Performs well on benchmarks testing multi-step reasoning and problem-solving.expand_more

Factual accuracy: Emphasizes factual accuracy and avoids making claims it cannot support.

Safety: Prioritizes safety and avoids generating harmful or offensive content.

Transparency: Provides details about its sources and reasoning process.

Weaknesses of Gemini:

Creativity: Less creative and playful in its responses compared to ChatGPT-4.

Fluency: Might sometimes lack the natural flow and conversational feel of ChatGPT-4.

Accessibility: Currently limited access due to being in an early development stage.

Strengths of ChatGPT-4:

Creativity: Highly creative and excels at generating different creative text formats.

Fluency: Produces natural and engaging conversational language.

Accessibility: More widely available and accessible for various applications.

Weaknesses of ChatGPT-4:

Reasoning: May struggle with tasks requiring complex reasoning and logic.

Factual accuracy: Prone to generating factually incorrect or misleading information.

Safety: Might generate offensive or harmful content if not prompted carefully.

Transparency: Lacks clear explanations of its reasoning process and sources.

Ultimately, the "better" model depends on your needs. If you prioritize factual accuracy, safety, and reasoning, Gemini might be a better choice. If you need a highly creative and engaging language model for storytelling or open-ended tasks, ChatGPT-4 could be a better fit.

I recommend trying both models (if possible) and comparing their outputs for specific tasks to determine which one aligns better with your requirements. Remember, both are still under development, and their capabilities will likely continue to evolve in the future.

Philippine Showcase / Is Islander Close?
February 09, 2024, 03:46:00 PM
No, the Islander brand is not closing. Only the factory outlet in Minglanilla, Cebu is shutting down on January 1, 2024¹. The Islander Philippines clarified that the brand will continue to produce high-quality slippers for the Filipinos². You can still order your favorite styles at Footstep branches and department stores near you, or online at Shopee or Lazada². I hope this clears up any confusion.

Philippine History / Filipino Soldiers in 1899

𝗗𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗣𝗦, 𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗦 𝗙𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝟱, 𝟭𝟴𝟵𝟵

Scene at Malolos after the outbreak of hostilities with the Americans 125 years ago. Below is an excerpt from Captain Francisco Licuanan's memoir pertaining to that day which was published by historian Teodoro M. Kalaw after the Captain's death. Francisco Licuanan is an aide-de-camp of General Antonio Luna.

" On the night of February 4th, hostilities broke out between Americans and Filipinos in San Juan del Monte, now province of Rizal. At dawn on the fifth, unusual excitement on the streets was noted in the capital of the Republic,  Malolos. Made more serious by the movement of troops which marched in compact columns as they crossed the Barasoain bridge towards the railroad station. The soldiers were lively and gay, the officers serene and cool. Everybody marched in a hurry but without losing the cadence and the rhythm of a troop on the march. The sound of drums and trumpets filled the air. Huge crowds of people stormed the post-office asking for news. The town in general was animated by its faith in the army, but it did not show the delirious enthusiasm of the multitude."

Science and Research / Humans Can Live Without Sugar
February 09, 2024, 02:27:36 PM
Humans need glucose, which is a type of sugar, to survive. Glucose is the main source of energy for the cells and the brain. Glucose can be obtained from various foods, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy products.

However, humans do not need added sugar, which is sugar that is added to processed foods and drinks, such as candy, cookies, soda, and juice. Added sugar has no nutritional value and can cause many health problems, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay.

Some people choose to quit or reduce their intake of added sugar, which can have positive effects on their health, such as weight loss, clearer skin, improved mood, and lower blood pressure. However, quitting sugar can also cause some temporary side effects, such as headaches, fatigue, and cravings, as the brain adjusts to the lower levels of dopamine, a chemical that is released when we eat something sweet.

So, to summarize, humans can live without added sugar, but not without glucose. It is possible to get enough glucose from natural sources, such as fruits and vegetables, without consuming any added sugar. However, quitting sugar can be challenging and may require some patience and support.

History / Hotel Mumbai Attacks Aftermath
February 09, 2024, 02:17:20 PM
The Hotel Mumbai attacks, also known as the 26/11 attacks, were a series of terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a militant Islamist organisation from Pakistan, carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai. The attacks killed 175 people and injured more than 300.

The attacks exposed the weaknesses and gaps in India's police and intelligence capabilities, such as poor coordination, inadequate equipment, outdated training, and lack of resources. In response, the Indian government initiated several reforms and measures to improve the security and preparedness of the police and intelligence agencies, such as:

- Establishing the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as a federal agency to investigate and prosecute terrorism and other national security-related crimes.
- Enhancing the capacity and mobility of the National Security Guard (NSG), the elite commando force that was deployed to end the siege at the Taj Hotel and other locations.
- Strengthening the intelligence-sharing mechanism among various agencies, both at the central and state levels, through platforms such as the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) and the Subsidiary Multi-Agency Centre (SMAC).
- Upgrading the equipment, weapons, communication systems, and vehicles of the police and paramilitary forces.
- Providing soft skills training for police personnel to improve their attitude, behaviour, communication, and emotional intelligence.
- Increasing the budget allocation for the police and intelligence sectors, and creating special funds for modernisation and infrastructure development.

These reforms and measures have been implemented to varying degrees and have faced some challenges and limitations, such as bureaucratic hurdles, political interference, corruption, and resource constraints. However, they have also resulted in some positive outcomes, such as improved response time, better coordination, enhanced professionalism, and increased public confidence.

Showbiz & Celebrity / Who's the Boss of Dominic Roque?
February 07, 2024, 06:48:59 PM
Dominic Roque is a Filipino actor and model who is best known for his role in Aryana and May Isang Pangarap. He is currently managed by Cornerstone Entertainment, a talent management company that also handles artists such as Sam Milby, KZ Tandingan, and Moira Dela Torre. He used to be under Star Magic, the talent agency of ABS-CBN, until 2021.

According to some reports, Dominic Roque and Bea Alonzo, a famous Filipino actress, were engaged in July 2023. However, their engagement was broken off in February 2024, as confirmed by Boy Abunda, a popular talk show host. The reason for their breakup is still unclear, but some speculate that it might have something to do with Bea's upcoming movie project with John Lloyd Cruz, her former on-screen and off-screen partner. Dominic's brother, Lhean, also posted a cryptic photo of a sheep in a wolf's body, which some interpreted as a hint of betrayal.

Talk of the Town / Calvin Abueva Fined
February 07, 2024, 05:25:17 AM
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has meted out a P100,000 fine on Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots' forward Calvin Abueva for mocking San Miguel Beermen Head Coach Jorge Gallent during Game 2 of the Commissioner's Cup Finals on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The said incident happened during the 9:52 mark of the fourth quarter where Abueva was seen making a gesture that mocked Gallent's eye condition.

The SMB coach lost his right eye in a motorcycle accident in 1988.

In an article posted on its official website, PBA emphasized that under its rules, "any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of 'physical disability' shall be subject to a fine of not lower than P 100,000."

Abueva informed PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial that he had already apologized to Gallent following the incident.

Meanwhile, Abueva and San Miguel forward Mo Tautuaa also appeared at the PBA office today after being summoned by the league following the shouting match that took place after Game 2.

"Abueva apologized to the PBA and to Tautuaa and his wife. Nagkausap at nagkaayos na sila." said Marcial.

The commissioner also warned the two players that heavier penalties will be imposed should a similar incident happen again.

San Miguel defeated Magnolia in Game 2, 109-85, to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven finals series.

Game 3 is scheduled on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Lifestyle, Culture and Arts / Pyramid of Giza
February 04, 2024, 09:34:27 AM
MER: THE GREAT PYRMID OF GIZA

The Great Pyramid Of Giza Known as Mer to the ancient Kemites is the most enigmatic structure on the face of the planet. Mer which translates to the "Place of Ascension" is the only surviving wonder of the ancient world and has inspired much speculation as to why it was built and what was its function.

According the the ancient Kemites themselves the Pyramids served as a ritual center for the Per Ankh schools of initiation. The Kings and Queens chambers were designed to harness resonance frequencies to induce higher states of conciousness. The structure of the pyramid was designed using sacred geometry which allowed the structures to tap into the subtle energies of the earth and the cosmos. The ancients harnessed this enegery for a number of purposes. It is said that the Pharaohs would use the Mer structures which were incased in highly reflective white limestone, capped with gold to "Turn night into day". A feat of such greatness would surely ensure their names and legacies would live on for thousands of years. They were right.

The mathematical accuracy and astronomical information encoded into the structure has baffled scientists for decades. The great pyramid is aligned within three sixtieths of a degree of true north, a more accurate alignment than any other structure on earth. It is not only aligned almost perfectly to the cardinal points, but its placement on the earth is intentional as well placing it directly in the center of the world's landmass.

The level of technological sophistication used to build this great monument far exceeds the capabilities of today's greatest minds and we could not build anything close to the great pyramid today even with our perceived advanced technology and building machinery. The ancient Kemites did not use the inch as they do in our modern system.

They used the royal cubit which is one 25 millionth of the polar diameter of the earth which is the exact distance from the north to the south pole. If you chop that distance into 25 million pieces you get the royal cubit.

The length of a base side at the base socket level is 9,131 inches which translates to 365.242 royal cubits. This just happens to be the earthly year right down to a quarter day. The measurements of the length and width of the perimeter of the great pyramid corresponds to an exact fraction of both the longitude and latitude measurements at the equator. Scaled up this means the great pyramid directly corresponds to the circumference of the equator as well as the measurements from the equator to the pole, making it a scale model of the northern hemisphere.

If you take the location of the Great pyramid as a coordinate this number sequence matches the speed of light traveling through space measurement in meters per second. None of this is a coincidence and the vast information encoded about the earth and its relation to the cosmos points to the fact that these ancient Africans were far more advanced than we could ever imagine and the methods in which they collected and incorporated these high sciences into their structures and cities still escape scientists today.

Today I give thanks to the ancient Kemites and those that came before for their contributions of Mathematics, Sacred Geometry, Architecture & Astronomy. I am grateful for these gifts you gave to the world.

Philippine History / Fokker 259
February 02, 2024, 03:24:42 PM
63 years in service. Six decades!

Today, we bid farewell, say thank you for your service, and render our snappiest salute, to Fokker 259, a Fokker F-27-200 Friendship aircraft delivered brand new to the Philippine Air Force in 1959. She spent most of her life with the PAF flying under the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing, alongside the bigger F-28 Jet, before being transferred to the 220th Airlift Wing where she served as a tactical airlifter.

Up until recently, she was the oldest flying Fokker in the world, and us spotters would always go out of our way to go after her and photograph her. Through the years, the men and women of the Philippine Air Force maintained her to the highest standard. I can still remember my surprise when I saw her come out of maintenance a few years back - ultimo the Fokker company roundel and the Rolls Royce stickers sa Dart engines nya, bagong bago! Zero sign of her being a senior citizen!

Such is the testament to the dedication of the PAF in providing safe and reliable airlift capability to the people.

And now, it's time to say goodbye.

She is now displayed at the Lopez People's Park in Silay City, Bacolod, for everyone to enjoy.

So, 259, thank you, and happy retirement! I'll miss hearing your screaming engines, but it's now time for your well-deserved rest. See 'ya!

Man, if airplanes could talk, grabe siguro ang mga kwento nito ....

Bittersweet, and for the last time, we say, "Fokker in sight!".

Real Estate 101 (Transfer of Title; From mother Title to individual Subdivided Lot)

The duration of the Transfer Process depends on the Nature and Origin of the Title.

In most cases, the "Mother" title or the title that covers the entire property is usually under the name of the deceased parents or relatives of the Seller. This scenario takes the longest time to process. To wit:

1. Execution of the EXTRAJUDICIAL SETTLEMENT OF ESTATE either for Partition or Sale. The execution may take time because it requires the presence of all the heirs who have shares or interest of the property.

2. Next would be the Publication of the ExtraJudicial Settlement of Estate and the Processing and Payment of the Estate Tax.

3. Simultaneously, if the heirs agreed to a certain partition , they must Hire a competent Geodetic Engr., to survey and plot the Subdivision plan based on the agreed partition. Then, it will be submitted to DENR for approval. (This will usually take 3-12 months depending on the DENR.)

4. Upon completing the Publication Requirements, the heirs can now proceed with the BIR to settle the estate tax and wait for eCar to be released. (Usually 3-6 weeks)

5. Once the eCar is released, you may now proceed to the Registry of Deeds to update the Title. From the Old Title named after the deceased parents to the HEIRS.

6. Once the DENR will release the approval of the Partition/Subdivision plan, the heirs may now proceed to the Registry of Deeds (ROD) to apply for the Splitting of Title. This may take up to 6 weeks.

7. After the Titles are individualized and released, the heirs may now proceed to the Assesors for assessment, inspection and issuance of individual Tax Declaration.

8. Note: properties under estate taxes and subdivided among heirs will be annotated with encumbrances for its Liabilities under Sec. 4 Rule 74 for 2 years. This is a protection to all the heirs or creditors that are not aware or not uncluded in partition.

9. If you buy a portion of this property, you may now start the Transfer Process which may include the ff:

9A. Execution of the final Deed of Sale with Title no. And description of the actual portion.

9B. Payment of Capital Gains Tax, Documentary Stamp Tax and other transfer Fees.

9C. After settling the BIR transfer Tax, you may now obtain your eCAR from from the BIR. (3-8 weeks)

9D. Once the eCAR is available, you may now proceed to the ROD for the transfer of title. (3-8 weeks)

9E. After the Release of the Title, you have to proceed to the Assessors office for inspection, assessment and issuance of new Tax Declaration.

The entire processing usually take 18-36 months depending on fast you can comply with all the requirements.

Facts and Trivia / Creation of Stars
January 26, 2024, 02:41:39 PM
"Stars"
Creation 36(2):39–42, April 2014
Dr Jonathan Sarfati

CMI-US's Dr Jonathan Sarfati explores the fascinating world of stars from a Biblical creationist perspective. He aligns scientific discoveries about stars with Biblical accounts, emphasising the power of God as the creator of these celestial bodies.

The Biblical Account of Star Creation
Sarfati begins by referencing Genesis 1:16, where the Bible states that God created the stars on the fourth day of Creation Week. This stands in contrast to evolutionary assertions, reinforcing the position that stars are a testament to God's omnipotence and not a product of natural processes.

Understanding Stars in Biblical Terms
The Biblical term for 'star' (kôkāb) encompasses various heavenly bodies, including planets and meteors. This does not, however, include the sun, which is instead considered one of the two great lights. Despite this, the modern astronomical definition of stars as plasma balls allows us to use the sun as a comparative example.

️ Diversity and Magnificence of Stars
Sarfati discusses the immense variety of stars, highlighting their differences in colour, temperature, and size. The article also explores the diversity of stars, from red dwarfs to the most massive and luminous stars like R136a1. This diversity is seen as a reflection of God's creative power and is linked to 1 Corinthians 15:40–41, where Paul speaks of the different glories of celestial bodies.
The comparison of different types of stars, like the sun, red supergiants, and blue Wolf–Rayet stars, to illustrate the diversity in God's creation.

Challenges to Evolutionary Theories of Stellar Origins
Sarfati critiques the evolutionary explanation for the origin of stars, pointing out that the theory is incongruent with observable rapid changes in stars. He argues that the naturalistic processes proposed by evolution cannot viably explain the genesis of stars.
Example: The transformation of Sakurai's Object from a white dwarf to a bright yellow giant, and then to a red supergiant, occurred much faster than evolutionary theories predict.

Problem of First Stars and Stellar Formation
The article addresses the major problem for evolutionists: the formation of the first stars. Evolutionary astronomers' theories on star formation from gas clouds are criticized for lacking a fundamental understanding and requiring pre-existing stars, leading to a circular reasoning problem. Sarfati cites astrophysicists like Abraham Loeb and Neil deGrasse Tyson, acknowledging their own admissions of the complexities and uncertainties in understanding star formation.
Abraham Loeb, of Harvard's Center for Astrophysics, says, "The truth is that we don't understand star formation at a fundamental level."
Neil deGrasse Tyson's admits, "The scary part is that if none of us knew in advance that stars exist, front line research would offer plenty of convincing reasons for why stars could never form."

Explanation of Technical Terms
Light Year: The distance light travels in one year, used to measure astronomical distances.
Plasma: A state of matter similar to gas but with some electrons removed, found in stars.
Hydrostatic Equilibrium: A state in stars where the outward pressure from nuclear reactions balances the inward gravitational pull.
Luminaries: Objects in the sky that emit light, such as stars, the sun, and the moon.

Conclusion
Jonathan Sarfati's article portrays stars as a magnificent and diverse aspect of God's creation, distinct from secular explanations of their origin. He includes admissions by secular experts on their difficulty in explaining their origins. He reinforces the Biblical view that stars, with their immense variety and complexity, testify to the power and glory of the Creator as described in the Bible.

Buri
Buri (Corypha utan), also known as Buli, Silag, Ibus, is a native species of palm distributed throughout the Philippines, usually in open spaces at medium to low elevations. It is one of the tallest palm species in the country, capable of growing up to 20m.

Similar to coconut, buri has many uses. The palm is a source of fiber for ropes, hats, baskets, fans, and furniture. Buntal, fibers extracted from the petioles of buri, is used in tying longganisas. The leaves of buri are used in wrapping rice cakes, such as in suman sa ibus and patupat. The sap can be turned into liquor, vinegar, and sweetener.

In Isla Verde, Batangas, the sap is turned into a traditional candy or sweetener called pakaskas, which gets its name from the process of scraping off the buri sugar from the cauldron. In Iloilo, a similar delicacy made from buri sap is called kalamay sa buri, parak, or pinarak. Both delicacies' containers are also made from the leaves of buri.

In Central Visayas, such as in Bohol and Cebu, the inner trunk of buri undergoes a laborious process to produce a starchy sago-like product called landang. Landang is traditionally used in binignit, a sweet stew made with coconut milk, plantain, and root crops. Also in the region, buri is used to make a flour called natok. In Maguindanao, the starch is called natek/nat'k, it is used in sindol, another type of guinataan, and dinangay.

Moreover, the inner trunk or ubod can be used as a vegetable. In Antique, the ubod is used in a dish called binas-o, a tomato-based stew similar to afritada.

A buri palm can live for more than 50 years. The palm is monocarpic, meaning it flowers only once and then dies. Towards the end of its life, buri produces majestic inflorescence that eventually turns into round fruits. The immature fruit has an edible endosperm that can be eaten raw or cooked (usually sweetened).
