what's the difference? if i may ask

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was young like you I would have bought this idea so quickly when mind was so and easily idealistic, proud and conceited. I guess you're right, it goes with age (i.e., the attraction to ideals), but the logic is very lame for such titling as this thread, hahaha. In reality maybe (da pangutana pod) it has to do with upbringing in the family (not Martial Law) and bad/good influences around (environment). Worst yet - and this I'm certain - it has to do with a big capital letter PRIDE, where the whole universe is centered around self (self-centered). Kung akong lolo ug papa pa pasultion, pila pa ka bakid bugas kinahanglan makaon... before you're even ready to rule the world hahahaha!!! Or, otherwise, the old saying is true, "It's hard to be humble when you're great as I am." Hahahaha.  ;D ;D ;D

Another question for those say they "accept" homosexuality: kanang inyong pag accept sa mga homosexuals (practicing akong pasabot ani) or gay (incl. gay marriage) ... have you REALLY and TRULY accepted them in every aspect of the word? But would you take them personally in your homes, ask them to be ninongs or ninangs of your children, or molohod sa inyong kasal or what-have-you, baby-sitter sa inyong mga anak, etc? Would you in some intimate way invite them to partake in your family life, etc? Or basin pod ang inyong attitude is, "Ok ra sila e-recognize, but I don't want to have anything to do with them?" Hmmmm. You don't have to answer any of these, but it sure doesn't hurt to ask ourselves these questions.

Bitaw, whether motoo ta nga binuhat tas Ginoo or dili, is really irrelevant for many here. For some of us who do believe, it's not because we're that bright to claim we know everything (or that much) except that we have a religion or system of beliefs we espoused as wisdom and guide to "right living". Like some of us clarified here, we have the freedom of choice how to live our lives: pwede ka mag hinawod, pwede magbinayot o pwede pod magbinuotan. It's your life, after all. Live it as you please!!! If some here contend homosexuality as wrong, it's because they're seeing it from their own perspective or religious upbringing (ayaw lang god mo kasuko). If you think homosexuality (just being gay) is not sinful, then so be it. Imo sad nang pagtoo. Wa joy mopogos nimo. Di man lang practice of homosexuality is condemned by the Catholic Chuurch as sinful, hasta man pod heterosexual relationship that is outside of marriage og kanang nagduwa-duwa sa relasyon nga "fragile" kaau. It's also a matter of justice, you know... kanang magpahimos sa mga vulnerable (lumay ug mga kasing-kasing). ALSO, Di naman pod siguro kinahanglan "mangigo" ta (below the belt)... nga maski ang mga servants sa Simbahan, dagko usab ug sala. The Church for centuries knew that and admitted that; we preach that every Sunday. Parents preached that to their kids. Kay naa ba diay di makasasala aning kalibutana? Klaro mana sa Bibliya. Coz if you claim you're one (sinless), either you're a liar or to you I'd say, "pag sure oi!!!" (LoL). Makasasa bitaw ta tanan. Di naman na angay istoryahan pa. Discussions here are basically battles of the minds (sometimes of prides, kung kinsay bright), perspectives, beliefs (kuno, as if we're broad or open-minded) or just plain arguing for the sake of one. Ang mo-surrender, aw.... but I urge everyone to stand by their beliefs... and live them!!! For that I will respect that person, the same way as I always admired atheists or agnostics for being so brave/fearless in not believing in a God. I wish isog pod ko like them... but am I really that different from them?

He already condemn the person.

Mao nay giingon Raq "if there's a will, there's a way." Fight for what you believe is your right. Sigon ra na sa lalis. Priests are only human and needless to say, imperfect. Sometimes bookish, sometimes stretchably liberal. At times pastoral, at times pod have a mean streak in them like everybody else, hahaha. See Luke 11: 5 ff - The Parable Of a Persistent Friend:

And he said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves;  6 for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;  7 and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’?  8 I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.

9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

This is a very imperfect world we live in. Duna tay mga wishes nga dili gyod tingali itugot, ug duna poy mga damgo nga damgo ra gyod kutob. Ahihihi. I wish we can become more loving, compassionate, respectful, just, peaceful, etc (all positive vibes and virtues) and extend loving hands to the less fortunate/powerless when given the opportunity. At the same time counting and thankful for our own blessings... and remain humble like the truly great ones who lived before us.

sorry out of topic

The funeral mass or even a memorial mass (walay patay nga lawas) is more so for the ones who are left behind than sa patay nga nahingtungdan. But the living... they are the ones who need our moral and prayerful support, our love, our compassion, our company, our prayers, bereavement, etc.

And the priest would gladly do it for free. Pero usyoso manang uban, pa misahan jud kay lagi tubong katoliko man. Simply said, instead nga mag nap ang pari, injo mang gipukaw ug pamisahon, aw, mao nang mohatag pod ang hingtungdan ug "stipend" or "honorarium" (morag service fee). Mga doktor, nurse, attorney, counselors, etc ra ba diay kahibawo manginabuhi? (LoL). Plus, they have to maintain the Church, too for spiritual service for the many years to come. Ignorance does not pay!  ;D ;D ;D

Let me ask you something people (at least the proponents of gay marriage). Why wouldn't proponents of pet lovers ALSO propose to the powers-that-be that they also legalize marrying their pets (e.g. dogs or cats) because many of them, too, can claim it's beyond sex and erotism? Why can't these people claim "human respect" as the underlying reason? Or use that argument that says "why would a heterosexual would want to marry one from the opposite number?" Why not?

Why would your answer be NO? Is it because we can sense something wrong in what I'm proposing? Is it really wrong? Think about it? Animals are just as good (esp. dogs and cats) as many humanoids (hahaha).

Or is it because it just so happen that it's not YET what we (as a society) consider at this point in our civilization as RIGHT? Meaning, it's not a matter or question of "human respect" or what-have-you but a matter of right or wrong. As far as I know, being gay or having gay relationships (worse yet, gay marriage) is not yet ackowledged as something right... at this point at least. Besides the Bible (and for a moment here just forget the Bible) NONE of this world's societies (maybe a few cities like San Francisco, etc) have acknowledged yet that a gay relationship is something normal or right much as they haven't recognize or shall ever legitimized/legalized a marriage between pet owners and pets... for reasons so obvious.

I have lots of friends who are gays and I respect them and enjoy their company... but I have also a religion (you don't have to belong to the one I am part of, you know) that I espoused , respect and follow to the best of my ability and we have what we call a BIBLE, a book we simply believe (without others to theologize it) as inspired by God that serves as guide to right and proper living. That what I hope people would respect us for... when we simply stand by what we believe as right and proper. If you believe or would like to live your life otherwise, I think the the world is big enough for all of us... you can always find your niche somewhere. And good luck to you on that!

Pero sa pagka karon - when our knowledge and understanding are as imperfect as we are - morag subidaon pa jud nang inyong ge propose nga gay marriage, even if most people already give respect to the gays and even enjoy their presence amongst us. I hope they have already passed the stage nga mahibaw-an sa ilang mga amahan kay aron di unja makulatahan (that's the joke part in this). If there's any consolation, you're always welcomed in my world and circle and laugh it all!!!

I think his reason why he denied funeral mass, burial in consecrated ground kay iyang gi base sa canon 1184 sa catholic church.
Canon 1184 §1. Unless they gave some signs of repentance before death, the following must be deprived of ecclesiastical funerals:
1/ notorious apostates, heretics, and schismatics;
2/ those who chose the cremation of their bodies for reasons contrary to Christian faith;
3/ other manifest sinners who cannot be granted ecclesiastical funerals without public scandal of the faithful.

Like you said nagplano imong amigo magpakasal so that is sign nga nag repent gyud siya ug naay good intention pero unsaon gidimalas man.
Personal opinion ra ni nako sorry I can't help myself pero hope nalandag lanadagan nako imong pangutana.

Muangay ko aning imong explanation Raq kay based on Canon Law man jud. That's the extent of Church law. Pero duna sad tay ginatawag nga being "pastoral" o "kalooy" nga ika extend sa nanginahanglan... nga maoy mo stretch sa balaod. Kadungog naman tas giingon sa Ginoo sa Gospels "the sabbath laws are made for man" not the other way around. "Hear, those who have ears" ika nga. Pero naa man say mga tawo nga nagpakabuta ug bungol. Unsaon taman.
#11380
I won't repeat everything here kay taas na ug libog pa jud. Was there a deeper reason? Like, public rejection of the faith? Or personalan ra ba to sa Kura Paroko? Deri sa amo simbahan maski makasasala o gikan sa laing religion dawaton man ug hatagan ug decent funeral service if they request so. The only one (reason) I know dunay negative provision is one nga miembro sa Mason, kay duna na silay sariling funeral arrangement outside the Catholic Church nga medyo wa mouyon ang simbahan hehehe. What it is I really do not know.

JANUARY 17, 2010 UPDATE FROM ARCHBISHOP BARNEY VIA PARING BOL-ANON, USA:

From Fr. Arnold Zamora:

Barnes,

Cynthia has been forwarding me some of your emails. I sometimes forward them to PB-USA groups. It saves repeating your story to them. I was ready to issue a check for you from PB-USA fund. Unfortunately, after I issued a check for Bp Yiet, we realized it was the last check. We run out of checks. I am scheduled to fly tomorrow evening, and tomorrow the banks are closed in observance of Martin Luther Day. Fr. Boy Paloso, our treasurer, has graciously offered to use his personal money for the meantime so we can send it soon. We will of course reimburse him. The important thing is we expedite our donation the soonest possible time and that will be Tuesday. Expect a donation of $2000 from PB-USA. Basig nakadungog ang Archdiocese namo ni Roel when we expressed our revolutionary sentiments that we cannot wait for them (chancery/diocese) to tell us when to ask a second collection. SF Archbishop Niederauer has asked all churches in the Archdiocese to make a second collection last weekend. Most importantly, we had a special prayer for all the survivors and victims besides my personal appeal. Forget the sex appeal. It's always there. Lami untag idiretso tanan diha nimo ang among second collection. Ingon si Roel, atunga-on. Let's see what we can do. Sungag kaliwat ni Dagohoy!

Prayerfully,

arn-arn

Reply from Archbishop Auza
:

thanks. my health seems to be getting "less". the fatigue seems to be taking its toll now. i had a series of meetings today no time to rest my stomach is starting to give in. i went to the hospital to see the corpse of the archbishop. his head is fractured in many parts. what a pity i liked him as archbishop and as a person. he was a very reasonable man and was always correct in the administration.

we celebrated mass in the open today. there was a CBS cameraman. i did not even talk to him. too busy comforting people and many came. even the richest lost their wealth!

our biggest fear is security. the police assigned to the nunciature dont come because they have their own problems.
we still sleep in the open and my back starts to ache. but we are much better than the rest!

did you see that the pope mentioned me in his angelus today? hah, i am consoled!

thank everyone for their prayers and send this to the family and friends.

My reply to today's communique:

Archbishop Barney,

Just read your latest reply... I've been reading all other emails earlier. This would suffice. Ignore my last email. We know it's you (security reasons lang to). Betty Veloso Garcia (TBTK), Fr. Katiw Napiere (Filipino Migrants in Taiwan) and Fr. Arnold Zamora (Paring Bol-anon, USA) are all in agreement, per suggestion also of Bishop Yiet (of Surigao), Fr Soc Mesiona (MSP) and others, to send the aid directly to you via the account you gave us. Betty and Fr. Arnold will send theirs this weekend before they leave for a trip they said. I will send ours after this weekend's second collection. I'm sure you will receive more aid as the U.S. Conference of Bishops are also encouraging their respective dioceses to take up collection for Haiti this coming weekend. We just hope to get the aid as early as possible.

I will forward your WRITE UP INFO to both (Atty) Mannix Cimafranca (Manila) and Charlie Ayco (Habitat-Bangkok)) and maybe Peter Dejaresco (DYRD) can do something about spreading the news back home in Bohol and the Philippines. I will also relay the news to Leo Udtohan (Bared News on Bohol Chronicle) who's been inquiring about your status. He could be of great help, too. That's the least I can do for now. Stay safe and will keep you in thought and prayers.

Thank you, guys, for all your help!!!

Here's the latest I received from the Archbishop today:

DEAR ROEL,

THANKS. I JUST CAME BACK FROM "MISSIONS OF MERCY", FIND THE DEAD, CONSOLE THE LIVING, RELAY NEWS, BLESS CROWDS AND ALL THAT. I NEED HELP AS MUCH AS I CAN.

HOW ABOUT IF MANNEX CAN DO THE WRITE UP? I WILL GIVE SOME INFORMATION AS FOLLOWS.

THE CAPITAL CITY OF PORT-AU-PRINCE IS HOME TO AROUND 3,5 MILLION PEOPLE. AROUND 67% ARE SLUM AREAS CONSTITUTING MORE THAN 3 MILLION INHABITANTS. THE EPICENTER WAS ONLY TEN KMS FROM THE CITY CENTER OF PORT-AU-PRINCE.
THE DEVASTATION WAS TOTAL IN MANY AREAS. IT'S TOTAL DESOLATION IN THE CITY CENTER AND IN SOME SLUM AREAS ON THE HILL SIDES.

ONE OF THE VICTIMS IS THE ARCHBISHOP OF PORT-AU-PRINCE, ARCH. JOSEPH SERGE MIOT. HE GOT THROWN OUT OF THE BALCONY BY THE FORCE OF THE QUAKE, FELL HEADLONG ON THE CEMENT PAVEMENT DOWN BELOW THEN COVERED WITH THE RUBBLES OF HIS RESIDENCE COMPRETELY REDUCED TO DUST AND SMALL PIECES OF CEMENT.

THE GREATEST MATERIAL LOSS IS SUFFERED BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE STATE OF HAITI, BECAUSE THEY HAD THE MOST IMPORTANT BUILDINGS AND INSTITUTIONS.

THE STATE HAS LOST THE NATIONAL PALACE, THE PRIVATE RESIDENCE OF THE PRESIDENT, THE PARLIAMENT, ALL 17 MINISTRIES AND MANY MORE REDUCED TO DUST.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH LOST THE ARCHBISHOP, THE CATHEDRAL AND ALL THE PRECIOUS CHURCHES, ALL TWO MAJOR SEMINARIES, DOZENS OF CHURCHES, CONVENTS, SCHOOLS...

THE UN MISSION TOO SUFFERED GREAT LOSS, LIKE THE DEATH OF THE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL AND CHEF OF THE MINUSTAH (UN MISSION), HEDI ANNABI, AND OF HIS DEPUTY, LUIS DA SILVA, AS WELL AS AROUND 200 OTHERS TRAPPED IN THE COLLAPSED FIVE-STORY HEADQUARTERS. THREE FILIPINOS ARE ALSO TRAPPED AND SOME FILIPINOS WORKING IN SUPERMARKETS ARE ALSO SOME OF THE VICTIMS.

THE GOVERNMENT ESTIMATES THE DEAD TO BE AROUND OR MORE THAN 100,000. THAT WOULD NOT BE FAR FROM THE TRUTH, OR THE TRUTH COULD BE WORSE THAN THAT. SOME SHANTY TOWNS TEEMING WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WIPED OUT.

THE APOSTOLIC NUNCIO TRIES TO COORDINATE, BRING HELP, CONSOLE WITH THE WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER THE POPE, BRING NEWS TO GROUPS AND COMMUNITIES. HE'S ALWAYS IN TOUCH WITH THE BISHOPS AND THE BIG CHURCH AID AGENCIES LIKE THE CRS AND CARITAS INTERNATIONALIS AND CARITAS HAITI. EVIDENTLY, WITH THE VATICAN AUTHORITIES.

THE NUNCIO MUST BE ONE OF THE VERY LUCKY FEW WHO STILL HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION. MOST OF THE EMBASSIES HAVE THEIR SYSTEMS DOWN. THE BUILDING WHICH HOSTED THE EMBASSIES OF BRAZIL, ARGENTINA, JAPAN AND THE EUROPEAN UNION IS ALMOST COLLAPSING... ABANDONNED NOW... THE SPANISH AMBASSADOR WAS EVACUATED AS THE EMBASSY COLLAPSED, IN PARTICULAR THE RESIDENTIAL PART.

THE MOST PRACTICAL, EASIEST TO SEND AND TO RECEIVE AID IS MONEY. PLEASE SEND DONATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING ACCOUNT AT THE VATICAN

BANK: ISTITUTO PER LE OPERE DI RELIGIONE, VATICAN CITY
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 20480001
TITULAR: NONCIATURE APOSTOLIQUE EN HAITI
SIGNATORY: ARCHBISHOP BERNARDITO AUZA, APOSTOLIC NUNCIO TO HAITI
MEMO: FOR QUAKE VICTIMS IN HAITI

ALL DONATIONS WILL BE PROFOUNDLY APPRECIATED AND 100% USE FOR VICTIMS. NO ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS OR WHATEVER. PLEASE GIVE DONOR'S NAME TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED LATER BY THE NUNCIO.

HOW DOES THAT SOUND? SEND IT TO ALL THE FRIENDS....

I AM BARELY STANDING! I AM EXHAUSTED!

POPE PRAYS FOR HAITI EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI prayed for victims of a massive earthquake in Haiti and urged the international community to provide generous assistance to the stricken population of the Caribbean nation.

The victims included Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot of Port-au-Prince.

"The lifeless body of Archbishop Joseph Miot of Port-au-Prince was found this morning under the rubble of the archbishops' residence," L'Osservatore Romano said in a Page 1 story Jan. 13.

Archbishop Bernardito Auza (from Talibon, Bohol), the Vatican's apostolic nuncio in Haiti, told the Vatican missionary news agency Fides: "Port-au-Prince is completely devastated. The cathedral and the archbishop's residence, all the big churches, all the seminaries are reduced to rubble."

Pope Benedict made his appeal at the end of his general audience Jan. 13, some 12 hours after a magnitude 7 earthquake struck Haiti, toppling buildings and causing widespread destruction. The number of casualties was not immediately known, but local officials called it a major catastrophe.

Pope Benedict said he wanted to highlight the dramatic situation in Haiti following the "devastating earthquake, which resulted in serious loss of human life, a great number of homeless and missing, and enormous material damage."

"I appeal to the generosity of everyone, so that our brothers and sisters receive our concrete solidarity and the effective support of the international community in this moment of need and suffering," he said.

He said the Catholic Church's charity organizations would immediately move into action to assist those most in need.

"I invite everyone to join in my prayer to the Lord for the victims of this catastrophe and for those who are mourning their loss. I assure my spiritual closeness to people who have lost their homes and to all those affected in various ways by this calamity, imploring from God consolation and relief of their suffering," he said.

Archbishop Auza said he had toured the capital on the morning after the earthquake and found the country's ministry buildings, schools and supermarkets destroyed. He said the headquarters of the U.N. stabilization force in Port-au-Prince had completely collapsed, reportedly trapping hundreds in the debris.

"I found priests and nuns on the street, who no longer have homes. The rector of the seminary survived, and so did the dean, but the seminarians are under the rubble. Everywhere there are cries coming from under the rubble," he said.

He said a study institute for men and women religious had collapsed, with many students inside as they attended a conference. The nunciature withstood the quake, and there were no injuries there, he said.

"We cannot enter or stay inside for very long because the earth continues to tremble. So we're camped out in the garden," he said.

Caritas Internationalis, the Vatican-based umbrella organization for Catholic charities, said it was mobilizing to provide immediate assistance to Haiti. On Jan. 13 it had already assembled an emergency relief team to fly to Haiti to assist Caritas members already working in the country. It said there had not yet been contact with the Haitian Caritas office.

Caritas Internationalis humanitarian director Alistair Dutton was leading the emergency relief team, Caritas said in a statement.

"There is a strong Caritas presence in Haiti. We already know that Caritas staff will be providing support to survivors of the earthquake, such as food, shelter and comfort through churches and parish networks," Dutton said.

"A priority for Caritas will be to assess the damage and our local capacity to provide aid to survivors of the quake. Caritas runs more than 200 hospitals and medical centers in Haiti. It is experienced and prepared to respond to humanitarian disasters there as a result of the frequent hurricanes," he said.

"Communication with our staff on the ground is difficult, but we are piecing together a picture of desperate need. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Conflict, recent natural disasters, and poverty have left Haitians with weak infrastructure. Working in that environment will be difficult," he said.

In its statement, Caritas said the cathedral in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince was badly damaged.

Caritas also said the U.S.-based Catholic Relief Services had been in communication with its staff in Haiti. The local CRS office was still standing and CRS staff present at the time of the quake were safe, it said. CRS staff described the quake as "a major hit ... a direct hit."
