We celebrate #SaveSierraMadreDay today in hopes that we prevent drastic typhoon effects in the future.
Back in 2009, major cities in the country were devastated with heavy rains and flooding caused by typhoon Ondoy. Research found that these floods could be attributed to the continuous deforestation, degradation, and destruction of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. Learning from this disaster, Save Sierra Madre Day was declared.
On this day, we raise awareness for and encourage participation in the rehabilitation, reforestation, protection, and conservation of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range.
