In line with its commitment to continually promote the welfare of more Filipinos, the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, today approved on third and final reading five (5) bills of national significance.
House Bill No. 8897 declares April 27 of every year as “Lapu-Lapu Day” in commemoration of the victory of Lapu-Lapu and his men over Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan in the historic Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521.
HB No. 8914 seeks to provide stiffer penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous and/or other similar substances by amending RA 10586 or the “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.”
HB No. 8915 or the proposed “Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Drivers’ Day Act” declares May 8 of every year as a national working holiday in recognition of the valuable contribution of PUV drivers to society.
HB No. 8916 aims to promote the safety of both pedestrians and motorists by declaring as illegal drag racing which shall be held in any public road, street or highway unless sanctioned by the government and approved by the local government unit (LGU) having jurisdiction on the venue. The measure also imposes penalties on the participants of illegal drag racing.
Likewise approved on final reading is HB No. 8901, renewing for another 25 years the radio and television franchise granted to Soundstream Broadcasting Corporation. #18thCongress #PartnersForChange
