Bacolod City Police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, yesterday slammed those questioning his request for the allowance of the policemen to be detailed in polling precincts and centers next month.
A press release was issued earlier this week by the group called the “Proud Bacolodnon,†that claims to be composed of concerned citizens, that questioned the request of the Commission on Election for endorsement of the budget of P1,788,200 being asked by Ordaniel for the city policemen.
Ordaniel said that, of the P1,788,200, P47,000 will go to the rent of the 47 public utility vehicles that will haul the Precinct Count Optical Scan machines going to the polling precincts and centers, while P28,000 is intended for the purchase of gasoline, oil and lubricants.
Asked why there is a need to hire public utility vehicles, Ordaniel said the BCPO only has four patrol vehicles that are in running condition, while others sometimes malfunction and can cause delay in the delivery of election paraphernalia.
He said they also set a budget of P300 a day for the 571 policemen, who will go on duty on the next 10 days before and after the elections, or at a total amount of P1,713,000.
There is nothing irregular about this, because this has always been a practice every election. The budget is necessary so the 571 policemen, who will be deployed in 1,693 precincts and in 45 polling centers, can fully function, Ordaniel said.
