𝗕𝗢𝗖, 𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗥 𝗳𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝗺𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁
Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA, with the Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit (WTMU) of Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR), has apprehended claimant of a package containing different wildlife species in Fedex warehouse in Pasay city.
At around 6:15pm on May 28, 2021, the representative of the consignee, claimed the parcel and was immediately apprehended by authorities.
The parcel which arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was declared as "lego toys". Upon examination, it was discovered that 20 pcs. of sulcata tortoise, 10 pcs. razorback turtle, 1 head red bearded dragon, 2 heads corn snake and 8 heads savanna lizard were concealed with toys.
The claimant and all involved will face charges for Illegal importation of Wildlife species under Section 1113 in relation to Section 117 and 1401 of RA 10863 or "Customs Modernization and Tariff Act" and Sec. 27 of RA 9147 or “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.”
Port of NAIA headed by District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan fully supports Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero’s directive on intensified border protection and is united with DENR to uphold the wildlife protection and its conservation.
