One of the probable gubernatorial candidates for 2010 is no longer with us. We regret that Atty. Juanito "Nitz" Cambangay has passed away. He was buried today, January 21, 2008 at the Victoria Memorial Park.

He was 60 years old. And even though he opted to retire early as Provincial Planning and Development Officer, he continued to serve as the Governor's consultant on foreign relations/overseas development assistance.

With more than 2 years to go for the election, we have ample time to educate ourselves, to reconcile questions, to look for meaning, to cultivate and inspire others who have the vision that matched to our outlook and not advocating vote buying.

We should give more emphasis on the platform / agenda, the competencies to execute and leadership abilities. And while in the process of mapping out these people, we hope that those aspirants have that noble vision of serving the people / community and not for their own interests.

Lin, what do you mean by "those people back home who has nothing to gain nothing to loose"? I think our people has to realize that they are the beneficiary of a good governance. There's an urgent need to inculcate to the minds of our people that they have to be more smarter in choosing their leaders. They should stop taking the "insults" (without them knowing it) by accepting money from these candidates. Yeah, I always believe these candidates buying votes are insulting the the voting public. It surely isn't generosity. It's a form of corruption that these candidates are involving the people! This got to stop jud.

'te, I completely agree with you. In order for this wretched phenomenon to cease, it will take proper action from the administration and the legislative body to place sanctions or arrest those who are propagating the act of vote buying. If no one is punished for these crimes, it will only continue and become part of the Filipino political culture. Its disgusting to think about it, but that is the only way it will stop. It has to begin form the bottom up, as well as cooperation from the heads of government.

One thing for sure, its going to take someone who has guts to quarrel with the 'powers that bee' in government, to challenge the so called 'status quo en politicum'

Who will it be? And when?

there is a question of leadership.... because those who are in powers are tolerant of the practice if not... they dwelt on it first... how would you cut when those in the top also advocated the practice?

in doing the task of choosing a leader, i believe it is of great importance to lay down the standards or criteria by which potential leaders are chosen. we need to know what kind of leaders we want so that we can decide who possesses these qualities that we look for in a leader and come election time put these officials into office through our votes. for starters, i believe we need someone who has political will to implement the law (walang kaibigan, walang kamaganak... in the real sense of the word). we need someone who can be tough with undisciplined, disobedient and abusive citizens -- tagbilaran city tricycle drivers included -- and someone who has a heart that is benevolent enough to find ways to alleviate poverty so that the number of people who are unable to even satisfy the basic need of eating properly everyday is, at the very least, minimized. but first and foremost, we need a leader that can spur the economic development of bohol in the next decade or so. we need a leader who has a vision, a leader who has the will, strength, and gumption to move towards this vision... i am sure there are lots of people in here who also have their opinions on standards or criteria to use in choosing a leader. may i suggest then that someone in here put them all together if enough contributions come in, and perhaps at even one year before election schedule, tubagbohol as a group can make a project of disseminating information to the voting population of bohol on how to choose leaders and what qualities to look for in a leader. i would like to pose this challenge of a project to tubagbohol members as a way of doing something concrete to help improve the leadership of bohol. it is nice to talk, but it is much better -- and perhaps even more fulfilling -- to act. thanks for reading.

the list provided are bunch of trapos. they are not different from the previous governors who did nothing but fatten their bank accounts and wallets. i can't seem to find a name that can somehow bring bohol to the next level. im sorry to say that but i really do pity the slow progress of bohol. i've been into a lot of provinces all over the country. and I can say that these provinces way behind by bohol in the early years but now bohol is way behind in terms of progress.

mike, i think you need to update this list of choices. atty. cambangay died already. although indeed, he was good! and something is missing. there are those who have tried rene relampagos, and then later tried someone else, who are now saying that rene was much better. he can run again. so, why is RENE RELAMPAGOS not in the list?

if i may add more, DEPT. OF BUDGET UNDERSECRETARY MARIO RELAMPAGOS would also make a good governor.

besides, those of you who voted for Gov. Aumentado and still support him to the hilt until now should have no problem swallowing another brilliant Boholano, ROMULO NERI!

and still another brilliant Boholano, PROFESSOR ERNESTO PERNIA of the UP School of Economics!

and if you have the wife and sons/relatives of Gov. Aumentado in the list, why is BOBBY CERICOS not in the list? if i'm not mistaken, he already ran twice; and lost. but he was the most honest (in terms of not buying votes) and cause-oriented candidate.

i think dan lim handled the tagbilaran drainage issue in the worst possible way. it runs smack of his lack of political will to implement the law. the very long time that it took the issue to resolve is indicative of his weakness as a leader even for simple issues as cutting of a mere 38 illegal connections so that the whole city of several thousand people will stop suffering due to his seeming protection for this special 38. (or is it .38 special?)

bol-anon nga cebuano: with the kind of mob mentality that tagbilaran businessmen have against investors from other places, it is doubtful that SM, gaisano or any other big business can set up branch operations in tagbilaran. take for example ceres liner. it was able to operate but only for a very short while. gipangitaan lang ug gamay bikil and its franchise was cancelled. another example is the very long struggle that mercury drug had to go through before they could set up local operations. when they applied, left and right and protesta that were filed by local drugstore owners with the sangguniang panglungsod... it's very funny that the bohol provincial government would go to the extent of establishing a bohol investment promotions center (BIPC) for the purpose of promoting aand attracting investments for bohol. but if investors like gaisano, SM would like to come and set up local operations, barahon dayon sa mga local businessmen. more often than not, our officials succumb to pressure exerted by these local businessmen being recipients of election money donations.

There must be some balancing acts to be done (i.e. cost benefit analysis, thorough needs' analysis, financial literacy, etc) by the 'to-be-new-administration" to attain economic success where opportunities are fairly and evenly distributed among many and not being monopolized by one or two enterprising families. It is really a sad thing to note how Bohol lags in business growth compared to the other provinces in the country. Small business monopoly without welcoming big players means curtailment of economic growth and depriving consumers from their choice of quality products of affordable prices. Besides, when small business enterprises thrive in the city like Tagbilaran because of some political clouts, the leaders should be made accountable for slowing the growth of the city, in closing the doors to diversified business oppurtunities that could generate more income to the city government and provide employment oppurtunities to the Boholanos. Why are we always capitalizing in our tourism industry? Tourism in Bohol is already an established sector and already known worldwide. All we have to do is maintain and improve tourist facilities to make in grow then, invite big business players to put up business in the province to supplement in a way our tourism industry. Anong say nyo?

With the on going trend of economic transformations due to the emergence of globalization, leaders of Bohol should act now in diversifying economic strategies to keep pace with this trend. Tourism is one that our Boholano leaders worth the credit for placing our province in the tourism world map. This is one area that we have to sustain, then diversify economic interests beneficial to the province. We could not afford to act too late and be content with what history taught us to remain in a place where 'the smallest monkey of the world is found.' It's time for us to think big. I meed before anyone votes here in the Philippines many things need to be worked on just like back home in the states but the only darn difference is we do not get bought out for cheap for our votes we are not that hard up to risk our lives at just a mere50 cents up to 60.00 dollars at times.

Lim has been at it again being a " _ _ _ _ S Q ueez!" I am sure hoping the man does not run again and that he goes back to being a family lawyer.

He has hurt business here and insulted some of the nicest people in the community who have contributed a lot.

He is like a baby always poops in his diaper when his shots are called as bad!

He should know of all people do not mix your personal and your profesional together.

He needs to receive the same treatment as Ebenezor Scrooge did on the night before Christmas and allow all his sip sip and insults and mean things haunt him or back fire up on him and anyone who say's they like this person needs to have they're heads examined.

I have 2 personal comments on Mar Lim;
I bought a flatiron which is European made, I complained that I can not use this in Bohol since the plugs are different, he heared it and gave me an adapter free.
I had observed that pregnant salesladies are working with their heavy tummy (nangugat ang bitiis sa dugay nga binarogay) 8 and half months, lain man diay ang ilang patakaran. Ang mga kababaihan walay proteksyon. The situation is really depressing because I am a member of a labor union here in Germany, 7 months pa pwede ka ng mag leave with 3 years maternity leave.

american elections are far from honest, orderly and peaceful... hinayhinayan na siguro ni nato starting 2010.. they are thinking of an automated voting/counting, pero na gihapun mga palpak ini.. ang problema kung automated ang election kay way paper trail.. the machine could be manipulated/tampered without us knowing.. murag nay report ini ang usa ka american professor on how american elections were rigged in the past.. makat-unan jud nis mga pinoy.. dungagan pa..

i don't think we can emulate the electoral process of the US. it's already in the bones of the politicians that way our elections are being run so we cannot expect any change. they've tried that automated counters in the last ARMM polls but we get contradicting results. from the politicians, it's not helping. but from the comelec's point of view it's doing wonders. they're confusing the mindsets of each voters so that we will still go with the traditional polling pattern. it's like they are promoting this: no to automated election because it's hard for us to cheat.

you mean dr. racho who run for mayor in balilihan twice but lost to anhing kiking and domie chatto? yeah, he is a good man with pure heart. maybe hed already seen the dirty side of the politics that's why he gave up and went to the states. that's the dirtiest election i've ever seen/witnessed in my whole life. and take note, that's only in the local side. how much more in the provincial, regional and national side? that's the reason i give up and transferred residency in cebu and boycotted 2 straight elections.
