Abapo’s dream: Change face of Bohol politics
By Sunday Post
“I have heard of and felt the nationwide and rampant graft and corruption happening in all levels of the government. I have noticed how the poor are being continually oppressed and their needs and opinions disregarded; while on the other hand, how the rich and powerful continue to rule and get away with all kinds of injustice,†Abapo said in an interview Friday. “But I guarantee to initiate change and give the Boholanos the life that they deserve.â€
Abapo who resigned from his post as provincial administrator to become the running mate of Vice-Governor Julius Caesar Herrera for the May election’s made this disclosure to dramatize his dream of changing the face of Bohol politics.
Although he has stressed that his priority legislations are on food security, education and health, he could not just close his eyes and let the trapos rule. In his 17 years in public service, he had taken note of all the injustices and oppressions made by those in position and in power. It opened his eyes so he would understand how the justice system is being twisted and how the country’s coffers are being unscrupulously emptied. He could not take anymore the empty stomachs, the illiteracy and the “legislations†which are guised as solutions to people’s problems but which are, in truth, made to immobilize the public so they would easily fall as victims to graft and corruption.
Aside from being an educator, Abapo is also a lawyer who understands how the justice system is being run. “I’m tired of watching the people slide from being less fortunate to being destitute, and eventually, to being hopeless, just because they allow themselves to be used in exchange for a few favors.†This time around, Abapo vows to “restore dignity to the masses.â€
Abapo strongly feels the problems of the less privileged for he used to be one of them. Being where he is now, and considering his current status which he earned because of his perseverance, hard work and strong affinity with the masses, he strongly believes that transparency in public service and prompt solutions to problems besetting the people and the system would raise the Boholanos’ way of life.
“I am here to serve the people and although I admit that I am only human with frailties, I would never use this as an excuse to fail those who still believe and hope for a better way of life for them and their children,†Abapo assures the people.
