THE Commission on Elections is optimistic that election-related cases filed with its provincial office will be resolved before May 14 elections.
This developed as four more cases of disqualification were filed last week, and the total now is 20 cases, said the Comelec.
All formal charges filed here were forwarded to Comelec in central office in Manila, which is in-charge of election-related cases.
Comelec said that a candidate Artemio Suello filed two separate cases against Vicente Torregosa and Victoriano Suello asking poll body to disqualify to run for councilor in the May 14 elections.
Former mayor Monina Cimagala Camacho, who is seeking reelection in Candijay, wanted incumbent Mayor Sergio Amora’s election results nullified at this early.
A certain Emmanuel Lagura of Loay wanted his fellow Lobocanon Atty. Adam Jala, son of Cong. Eladio Jala, disqualified for lack of residency.
Meanwhile, the Comelec said that some 3,265 “clustered†precincts located in mostly public schools are now in place.
It was expected that like the 2004 elections more than 80 percent of the 661,001 registered voters will cast their votes in next week’s polls.
It said that each political parties, party-lists, and independent candidates is entitled to two poll watchers for each precinct but only one may be allowed to do his job so that there’ll be no crowding.
The voting will start at seven in the morning till three in the afternoon, it said. (Ric Obedencio)
