Tips on saving gas
Iloilo City (30 August 2005) -- How can you save on gas?

But before you answer this question, consider the following facts:

According to Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla fuel consumption in the transport sector accounts 53 to 58 percent of the country’s oil requirements.
World oil prices hit historic highs this month with Dubai crude highest at $57.80 per barrel on August 12 and MOPS-based unleaded gasoline at $73.90 per barrel in August 15.
As a net importer of oil, the country is not spared from the negative effects of the runaway increase in oil prices, noting that every dollar increase in world oil prices translates to about $1.26 million additional foreign exchange requirements. The country’s annual oil demands stands at 126 million barrels.
The country’s oil import bill for the first five months of the year has increased by 27 percent to $2.3 billion from$ 1.8 billon despite the notable decline in the demand for oil by 8 percent during the same period a year ago.
With these facts, the benefits of a fuel conservation initiative cannot be undervalued. And to achieve result, everyone must be involved by taking part in the national effort to save fuel. For in so doing, we will not only be helping our country’s economy but also ourselves. Fuel saved is money saved.

The Department Of Energy says you are the best gas saving device! The driving technique of the individual behind the wheel is the most important single element in determining the fuel economy of any motor vehicle –car, utility vehicle, truck, bus, motorcycle, and trailer. One authority insists a careful driver can get at least 30 percent more mileage than what an average driver can, and 50 percent more than the wasteful one.

Here are some more of these gas savings tips from DoE:

Vehicle tuned up to operate at or close to sea level are less fuel efficient when they get to a higher elevation and vice versa due to difference in air density. Fill your fuel tank in the morning when it is cool. Never fill your tank to the brim. Drive off immediately after starting, but at a low speed. The engine will warp up faster and lubricate better. Do not let the motor idle for long. Turn off the engine. It takes less gasoline to restart the car than it takes to let it idle. Generally, there is no need to press the accelerator down to restart a warm engine.
Further, the DoE advises that the most efficient speed is between 75 to 90 kph. On a highway, maintain steady speed. Always keep a manual transmission in the highest gear possible without straining the engine. (PIA-6)

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
