The Youths and Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado
« on: October 25, 2007, 08:51:24 PM »
Written By June S. Blanco

The youths are close to the governor’s heart – they being the hope of the fatherland – future leaders who may follow in his footsteps, like starting from poverty, completing college on a scholarship and going on to become a topnotch politician who virtually hoarded infrastructure projects for Bohol including Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project, the Leyte Bohol Interconnection Project and the recently inaugurated P3.6-billion Bohol Irrigation Project Stage 2.

These does not include yet the intangibles –livelihood generation through skills trainings, cooperativism and others.

The leaps and bounds Bohol made under Aumentado such that it graduated from Club 20 – the country’s 20 poorest provinces to the current 52nd position in a field of 81 according to the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) apparently earned the awe and inspiration of the youth.

The biggest contributory factor in the climb to the 52nd spot is the Poverty Reduction for Peace and Development Program initiated in 2001 “that benefited thousands of youth through its component program, the Livelihood Integrated for Food and Family Enhancement (LIFFE), whose primary objective is to make the Boholanos particularly the out-of-school youth economically stable by way of engaging them in various livelihood projects such as swine and poultry raising, carabao and cattle fattening, among others.”

As such, the National Youth Commission (NYC) under its chair and chief executive officer Richard Alvin Nalupta passed a resolution commending Aumentado “for his selfless and dedicated service to the youth through the Poverty Reduction for Peace and Development.”
