The proposed national ID system

Talks are again ripe in the House of Representatives to push through with a law instituting a national identification system.
Recently, the House Committee on Revision of Laws agreed to conduct public hearings on House Bill 131 and 241 sponsored by Albay’s Rep. Al Francis Bichara and Camiguin’s Rep. Pedro Romualdo respectively. Both bills seek to establish a national ID system aimed primarily to facilitate and streamline government services, minimize red tape and increase productivity.
One thing novel in the new proposals is that this time around citizens will not be required to have the national ID but will only get one on a voluntary basis, apparently so as not to antagonize some sectors who time and again have opposed its establishment.
