It is apparently clear that the Marcoses are still a powerful political family in the Illocos Region.

Still many of the general population in Illocos are fond and strong supporters of the Marcos Family.

What his father taught him

I ask the inevitable–How much of your dad do you see in yourself?—but the senator turns it around.

“I can’t even answer it objectively, so let’s turn it around. I try to emulate him in many ways. Especially when it comes to work–to be serious, do everything you can, going to bed at night knowing that if you did not achieve everything you want, you did everything you possibly could to try and get to that point.”

And both his father and mother were one in instilling in all of them the sense of duty to the country. “You OWE the country many, many, many things, and you better spend your life repaying it,” he recounts his parents telling them. “And it is a very rewarding way to live your life. It really is. So that I follow, those simple principles.”

It is obvious that Marcos was questionable in his policies and that there was rampant corruption in the government at the time of Marcos' later years. However, ever since the return of the Marcos Family to Illocos, the family has won the plebiscite of the people in Illocos Norte. Imee Marcos, the eldest daughter, being elected to Governor, with Bongbong winning the Senatorial Seat.

Perhaps, one can assume that the children of Ferdinand Marcos and Imelda Marcos are not so different from the politicians in the Philippines. Perhaps, they are even doing their job? If they did not, they would have never won the plebiscite of the people of Illocos Norte.

Diba?

Besides, I don't believe that the sins of the father continues on with the son/daughter etc.

Bongbong is apparently very popular in Illocos region. And his popularity is spreading throughout northern Luzon...

I remain optimistic that he can redeem the Marcos Name. Bring it back to when the name of Marcos was respected by most Filipino households.

Given, he may not be popular in other parts of the Philippines, but Illocos Region?

I believe there was a saying in regards to the Illocos Provinces as, "The Solid North".

Tho I do not think he could ever be elected President, considering the sentiments of the Philippine people, he might become a leading political leader in the north. possible. I'm a firm believer in second chances and giving people time to prove themselves. Perhaps, Bongbong can become the good politician that his father ought to have been. Time will tell.

no, please, no more marcos at the national helm.  no more family, inc. in our political life.  our country's second macapagal was a disaster.  how many macapagals (i.e., and arroyos) are in elective offices now?  meanwhile, three of the four remaining marcoses of ferdinand are holding elective positions too.  we must be a nation not only with a short memory but also a knack for political masochism.

let's face it, oftentimes in our political culture politicians win elections because they have the money to run a political machinery and not because they are fit.  if it were otherwise, randy david would be in congress and not gloria.  bongbong for president?  just the thought of it makes me lose hope for our country.

OT: by the way, was the second bush of the u.s. any better than the first?
