Revive Bataan Nuclear Power Plant?

Widespread objection is heard over proposals to activate the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP), even as legislators are divided on the issue.

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said the BNPP is an old structure and is sitting on a fault line.

Unfortunately, even if an area is declared as fault-free, there is no assurance with the recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake that shook the province of Negros Oriental, which government seismologists said came from an undiscovered fault.

This means that wherever in the Philippines, nobody can tell if another undiscovered fault will shake the earth.

For his part, Rep. Pryde Henry Teves of the 3rd district of Negros Oriental said pronouncements from first world countries about nuclear power plants are creating confusion.

While first world countries are saying to go renewable energy, such as wind, hydro or solar, they are also building so many nuclear plants.

Teves said the United States of America is building 20 more nuclear power plants, and so with France and the rest of the world, and yet they are telling third world countries to go renewable when they knew for a fact that it costs more in terms of per kilowatt hour of electricity.

On the other hand, San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito believes it is about time the national government open its minds in considering nuclear energy as a source of power to address the power crisis in Mindanao and in the country.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
