Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile recognized the need to fine tune the law on party-list to make sure that it is truly representative of the marginalized sectors.
Enrile, who was here during the weekend, said this was in reaction to the report that many party-list representatives seeking seats this coming 2013 elections actually belong to the rich instead of the marginalized sectors.
“We’ll have to review the party-list law again,†Enrile said adding that "upon the review of the party-list regulations, necessary amendment will have to be done if it warrants."
Meanwhile, AAMBIS-OWA party-list representative Sharon Garin, who is seeking reelection, said on Sunday that she hopes her belonging to the political clan of the Garins of Iloilo First District would not disqualify her.
“I am not the poorest party-list representative but I already passed a lot of bills on agriculture. I hope I would not be discriminated as a representative and advocate for farmers,†Garin said.
She was hopeful that her status in life would not deter her from representing the farmer sector.
She said "it is not a problem if the party-list representative is poor or not, what is important is the performance and what has been done to the marginalized sector he/she represents."
Meanwhile,Iloilo Fifth District Board Member Shalene Palmares Hidalgo said that the party-list should really represent the marginalized sector so they could be given voice and attention by the national government.
