The Bohol ChronicleFood security through Bohol Seeds Assistance Program (BSAP) aimed at subsidizing rice seeds for farmers got the lion's share of PhP13,786,000 and food safety packaging of P1.5 million from Supplemental Budget No. 1 swiftly approved last week by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), said Vice-Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera.
Herrera, who chairs the agriculture committee of the SP, said the approval of the Supplemental Budget amounting to PhP53,458,271 is a concrete move to address the feared rice shortage came following SP's meeting with Gov. Erico Aumentado recently.
He said the governor strongly endorsed the outlay as certified by the Local Finance Committee (LFC) chaired by provincial administrator Atty. Tomas Abapo Jr.
Though the approved outlay gave no details of the BSAP, the vice-governor said that this food security allocation may be spread through next year's planting season to ensure more rice production. He said he is optimistic that barring any haywire by next year the province may attain self sufficiency in rice production.
The allocation of P1.5 million is intended for food safety packaging with auspices of the Philippine-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP) as part of food security thrusts, Herrera said.
