Well it certainly does not help the American economy when OFW's from all other countries are running their monies to families abroad and some of them are exempt from reporting and paying into the tax system to help maintain public services, even though they are using it daily does not make a lot of sense now does it.
I am more releived to know that recently America has said it is no longer in need of nurses as they have enough coming from around the world and America also has their own surplus of nurses to work these days.
So less people will be getting visa's to the land of the free and the land of liberty.
I think it is better as Philippines needs it's nurses here do to an over booming population that never stops growing and its shortage of resources in just about everything.
Philippines needs its people to love its country stay here and freshen things up instead of always running from the problems here.
I am in Philippines do you see me sending this countries money out of here?
ha ha ha
Interesting.
As one who is a product of the Filipino Medical Diaspora (The Filipino Brain Drain), I am placed in a situation in analyzing this predicament. Considering both my parents are Medical Professionals and part of the Brain Drain Wave.
As a Filipino medical student, I do understand the importance of medicine in any given society, and the role of the Physician/Surgeon, for the health of that given nation, and at the same time, one cannot give ear to the notion of the law of economics 'Supply and Demand'.
The Philippines, currently, is saturated with Nurses and Doctors, tho. The nation is known throughout the world as a 'Medical Machine'. The Philippines as a nation, produces thousands of Doctors and Nurses every year. It produces technocrats. You name it: Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, Seamen, IT Workers, Physical Therapists etc.
What bears testament to the Philippine Intelligence and Will is the fact that there are over 20,000 + Filipino Physician/ Surgeons here in the united states. Do you know that the Filipinos make up a large chunk of the medical work force here in the 'states. Our numbers dominate not only the nursing field, but the medical pillars. The 2nd largest foreign medical graduates that practice here in the United States are from the Philippines.
The reasons for it is the fact that:
1. Filipino Medical Schools are above par; and produces highly qualified physicians
2. Filipino Medical Graduates have high success rates in passing the USMLEs
3. Philippine-Trained Doctors do extremely well in their clinical rotations over here in the United States due to their experiences in the Philippines. Philippine Doctors are exposed to cases that are unheard of in the United States. Cases such as: Dengue, Yellow Fever, Polio, Leprosy, varying types of viral infections.

True, Priscilla, the United States might be limiting its nursing demand due to the rising nursing profession here in the United States, but speaking as a medical student, medicine will be a field that is cyclic.
Demand for more nurses and doctors will make it inevetible to open the doors, yet again. It is estimated that by 2020, the United States will be in shortage of Doctors. This means that the doors will yet again be open to allow more highly qualified foreign graduates.
Filipino Doctors are in the top list due to their innate strengths:
1. mastery of the English language
2. hard working
3. ability to do what many would give up on.
----
Alot of American Medical Graduates prefer to specialize in surgery or higher tiered resident spots. We want to specialize. Thats the trend nowadays, "specialize, specialize'.
But to the dismay of the nation, we are in DIRE shortage of primary care docs (PCD).
We are in shortage of:
1. Pediatricians
2. Family Practice Docs
3. Internal Medicine
4. Psychiatry
---
And do you know what spots the Foreign docs are getting into? hehee yup, got it!
Primary Care.
So long as there is demand, there will definitely always be a supply.

Nations can boast about their strengths. Japan can boast about their technological stregnths, their cartoons, their gagetry. American can boast about its military, Canada can boast of its farmland, its bread basket, Saudi Arabia can boast about its oil and natural resources.
The Philippines can boast about her Doctors, her Nurses, her medical professionals.
Which she produces by the thousands upon thousands year after year.
Philippines is known as: A Medical Production Plant.
