No midnight deal.
Agnes Devanadera, former solicitor general and later justice secretary during the Arroyo administration, said she was not aware of any last-minute deal designed to mitigate accused plunderer Carlos Garcia’s liability and eventually set him free.
Devanadera said government lawyers should focus on the legal process. She said talk of midnight deals “only serves to distract them.â€
“It’s easy for you to be emotional,†the former justice secretary told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone. “But if I were them, I would just study the case. Like in a song, you look at the melody and lyrics rather than scrutinize the singer.†- pna
