published by the Bohol ChronicleFormer governor and third district congressional candidate (May 2007 polls) Rene L. Relampagos has moved on from his contested defeat in the hands of newcomer Rep. Adam Jala but has decided to "light a candle instead of cursing the darkness."
Relampagos said that by citing irregularities and helping document election fraud particularly in the towns of Sierra Bullones and Loay, he had effectively challenged the more enlightened public to be more vigilant in the next polls and fight for clean elections.
By taking that step, Relampagos hoped to erase "passive culture and fear" that predisposes an attitude that "election cheating is part of the game." This is the "candle he has lighted" for electoral reform advocacy.
Moreover, he dismissed Rep Jala's call for unity for Bohol's development since as former governor and now private citizen, Relampagos declared, he is quietly working for the development of Bohol and its third district.
He refused to be baited into filing a formal protest at the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) saying it is "futile given the alignments in the House which is dominated by the partymates of Rep. Jala."
