Administration lawmakers are pushing for
Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas to be included in the senatorial slate of the Liberal Party (LP) in the coming mid-term elections in 2013.
Fariñas is currently a member of the Nacionalista Party (NP) of Sen. Manny Villar.
Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone, at the regular Ugnayan sa Batasan on Tuesday, said Fariñas’ competence as a lawmaker is beyond question, which could be an asset in the Senate when it comes to legislating laws especially during the impeachment trial of then Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.
"We will be pushing for the inclusion of Congressman Fariñas in the administration slate," said Evardone.
Fariñas, vice chair of the committee on justice of the House of Representatives, was deputy lead prosecutor during the impeachment trial.
Evardone said that although the Ilocos Norte solon did not sign the impeachment complaint, it was enough that his colleague defended it and helped in convicting the chief justice.
Fariñas had said he did not sign the impeachment complaint because it was poorly crafted.
President Benigno S. Aquino III, in his earlier speeches, has said he was eyeing in the senatorial line-up Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara, former Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros, Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director-General Joel Villanueva. - PNA
