The contractor of a new Department of Education (DepEd) building to be located at the Capitol site, Tagbilaran City, is awaiting the demolition of some 28 houses at the project site before they can officially start construction works.
The houses, some of which were built over 10 years ago, belong to some 28 illegal settlers in the area which is owned by the provincial government.
The provincial government plans to build offices in the site. DepEd will build its 2-storey building to be followed by the Commission on Audit (COA).
Floyd Fullido of the DepEd Bohol Division Office Physical Facilities Division told the Chronicle that the Davao based contractor is in a quandary on how to proceed with the construction as the illegal settlers have not abandoned the area.
A month ago, the provincial government, through Legal Officer Atty. Handel Lagunay had a dialogue with the 28 families.
Some 3 months before the dialogue, the provincial government already sent notices to the settlers asking them to vacate the area.
