Going to the homestretch with the start of local campaigns in two weeks time, a Bohol Lakas stalwart is confident the administration standard bearer would give other party candidates a tough fight.
Lakas-kampi CMD Regional Chairman and former provincial chairman Gov. Erico B. Aumentado said a recent survey commissioned by US and UK companies in the country has revealed that Lakas standard bearer Gilberto Teodoro has been catalputed next to Nationalista Party's Manuel Villar.
Leading the survey of 5,000 respondents across the country by Campaign and Images Group was Senator Manny Villar at 31% while Teodoro placed second with 24%.
Liberal party's Benigno Aquino III slid down to third with 20% while former president Joseph Estrada capped fourth with 13%.
Over the development, Gov. Aumentado added, the local governments have not even started the campaign yet.
In Bohol however, with a broken Lakas, the Governor said he is still awaiting for the Lakas call to meet, a thing present Lakas chairman, Cong. Edgar Chatto has to do yet.
The rift started to take shape as soon as Lakas ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) to accommodate ex-governor Rene Relampagos.
The coalition, which Gov. Aumentado said was only operational in 1995 has also thrashed the equity of the incumbent rule and allows LDP to field its own candidates against legitimate Lakas candidates in the towns.
Many mayors who showed their discontent over the recent turn of events threatened to bolt for other parties which may provide them political shelther.
Gov. Aumentado has however urged mayors not to be very drastic, although he also said he would respect such decision.
Aumentado, who sees a strong Lakas here said the party can deliver the victory for administration candidates, if the party remains united.
Amid the threat of Lakas splitting with loyal members alleging shabby treatment of party members, the national Lakas directorate through Party Chairman and sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez has issued orders for loyalty checks among the ranks.
The move is to determine who among the party loyalists shall remain to roll the campaign for the administration before the defections happen with the nearing local campaign starting.
