Manila, Philippines --- Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada yesterday declared an all-out war on gambling in the city as he warned that a one-strike policy will be applied on policemen who will not be able to accomplish his directive.
In his first command conference at the Manila Police District (MPD), Estrada told Manila policemen that his administration will focus heavily on eliminating gambling and extortion in the first 100 days of his term.
"Today, we are declaring an all-out war against all forms of illegal gambling. Lahat ng illegal gambling activities ay ihihinto natin - mga illegal bookies sa karera, video karera, fruit game machines, at ending ng basketball," Estrada said.
"At ito ay warning sa lahat ng station commander, lahat ng operating units, lahat ng responsible officers, ang susundin natin ngayon ay one-strike policy. We will immediately relieve those officers who are not able to stop illegal gambling in their respective jurisdictions. On this occasion, I order all police officers to immediately stop mulcting or extorting money from vendors, helpless drivers of public utility vehicles, mga kotong sa illegal terminals and transport cargo such as vegetable dealers," he added.
