The provincial elections office has called on national candidates and their supporters to first consult the elections offices as to the location of the common poster areas before they post campaign posters or materials in Pangasinan.
Provincial election officer Reddy Balarbar made the call after all municipal and city election offices conducted an all-out drive against posters of national candidates that were placed other than the common poster areas located in each barangay in towns and cities of the province.
The operation was pursuant to Balarbal’s directive to all election officers in Pangasinan last February 11 to conduct "Operation Baklas" on February 16 because of the rampant violation in the posting of campaign posters of candidates for president, vice president and senators.
“We already designated common poster areas in very locality where the supporters of candidates would place campaign posters. But there are people who are really hard-headed and really wanted to violate,†he said.
He said tons of campaign posters were wasted after they were removed by municipal and city election offices in Pangasinan. These were either nailed on trees, hanged on electric and telephone wires or posted or nailed in electric posts.
The provincial election officer also called on the candidates to show they are environment friendly by not nailing posters on trees.
"Spare those trees and make our surroundings clean", Balarbar told the candidates and their supporters.
The official dismissed as flimsy the reason of some of the candidates’ supporters that they don't know the locations of the common poster areas. - PNA
