Drug-infested LGU

STATEMENT BY THE HONORABLE
BERNADETTE “BH” HERRERA-DY
Bagong Henerasyon Party-list
Chair, Committee on Public Information

COMELEC CONTROL NEEDED OVER NARCO-INFESTED LGUs

As Chair of the House Committee on Public Information, I urge the PNP and DILG to recommend to COMELEC the LGUs which should be placed under COMELEC control because of pervasive public safety and security dangers including illegal drugs and “narcopolitics.” The COMELEC should then inform the public which barangays, towns, cities, or provinces will be placed under its full control.

Such a move can preempt any peace and order threats and save lives.

All of us may recall that one of the reasons why the President Rodrigo R. Duterte wanted to postpone Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections was to give the government enough time to address the drug problem at the barangay level.

The drug syndicates would just lure aspiring village executives had the Barangay and SK elections continued last October, the government believed.

"I'm telling you: If you call for a barangay election now, the drug people will win. They have the money; they can buy the municipal mayors who are really into it. It will begin to produce more shabu so they can win," President Duterte was quoted saying. (https://goo.gl/zqJftH )

The COMELEC has set the resumption of the system of continuing registration of voters for the May 2018 Barangay and SK elections from November 6, 2017 to November 30, 2017. (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
