Take over the Purok Patrol

Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim dared Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso to handle the daily live radio program following criticisms that he is using it for political purposes.           

 â€œI do not want to dignify the accusation especially coming from polluted sources who see politics in everything that their opponents do but refuse to see the same thing in themselves,” the mayor told Veloso in a letter sent to the vice mayor.           

Lim said he does not want to cast doubt on a program that has been a venue for citizens to address their concerns directly to city officials.           

 â€œI am therefore inviting you and all who share your views to host the daily Purok Patrol from here on,” the mayor said.           

Lim, however, did not let the issue to pass without taking potshots at Veloso.           

 â€œThis has many implications of course. First is that it will make a laughing stock of one who, after failing miserably in his legislative duties, now wants to arrogate unto himself executive functions simply because he is running for mayor,” he added.           

The mayor added that the program that that should become a model for other local government units as far as reaching out to the people is concerned “is instead being treated with contempt by those who will stop at nothing to put the City Government in a bad light to cover up for their own indiscretions.”           

Lim has been at the receiving end of a massive propaganda campaign for more than a year now.           

He has lamented that his critics will not stop at destroying the image of the city and its people if this is what it takes to unseat him.           

Now that the Purok has been put on the spot, Lim said he has had enough.           

 â€œThe ball is now in your hands,” he told Veloso.           

Lim said that effective Jan. 18, the vice mayor is responsible not only for the Purok Patrol but all the concerns that are brought to his attention through it.           

 â€œInasmuch as you aspire to become mayor, this will be a good opportunity for you to prove your worth beyond mudslinging and empty rhetoric,” he concluded.
