Sharing the elections assessment issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Bohol conduct was generally smooth.

Bohol Commission on Elections supervisor Veronico Petalcorin, in a radio interview a day after the elections issued the assessment despite isolated minor incidents that appear to be election related.

In the national scene, PNP chief Deputy Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr said that as of 12 noon, Monday, PNP only recorded a total of 11 casualties - 4 killed and 7 injured. He said this was lower compared with 2004 record when 9 died and 22 were injured. In 2001, 14 died and 32 were injured.Petalcorin, who was at the provincial tabulation center for the canvass from the towns said the deputized agents have looked into Bohol’s peace and order situation especially during the elections.

In Alburquerque, local residents and the local police succeeded in apprehending at least two men and confiscated an armalite and two handguns as they were nabbed while in the vicinity of sitio Conan, East Poblacion (Epo), Pinsp John Gilbert Basalo of Camp Dagohoy said.

Reports said Albur police recovered an armalite rifle and two handguns from the group. Police also detained at least two suspects: Quirino Somorostro of Catarman Dauis and a self confessed minor from Causeway in Tagbilaran. Their other companions escaped before the police could get them.

In Ubay, a random checkpoint at Sitio Son-co Poblacion also bagged a handgun with two live bullets as police frisked Marcos Boncales of barangay Camalihan the night before the elections.

On May 14, Candijay police defused an explosive device hooked to the rice-mill circuit breaker. Chief of police, Inspector Hipolito Cepedoza said the device: two acetylene tanks hooked on the establishment’s power supply could easily raze the building on fire, had it not been discovered earlier. Candijay Mayor Sergio Amora owns the rice-mill.

Meanwhile, over complaints of massive vote buying, lawyer Petalcorin has advised to those who felt cheated to formally file charges. (rachiu/PIA)
