For voters intending to familiarize themselves with the new ballots to be used in the May 2010 elections, forms can be downloaded from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) website.
Bohol election supervisor Eliseo Labaria revealed that voters can go to
www.comelec.gov.ph where a sample ballot for shading practice can be downloadable.
Practice is important, adds Tagbilaran City Comelec officer Atty. Ariel Selma, noting that the Precinct Count Optical Scanner machine would reject any other stray marks on the ballots rendering the vote for a position invalid.
Atty Labaria also said a special ink is needed to mark the ballots and machines may not accept erasures so it would pay so much to be prepared and familiarized.
During the recent Kapihan sa PIA, both lawyers agreed that it would be beneficial if people get accustomed to the ballot especially when shading is now used to blot out the choices.
A voter should not mistake blotting two slots for president or one more candidate for councilors for example as this would invalidate all the votes for his seven other councilor choices, Atty Labaria explains.
The Comelec website also provides a guide on how to accomplish the sample ballots, one that can be rated easy.
The Comelec also assured that aside from its website, it is also opening up trainings and information dissemination modules on the election processes especially for voters to be familiar with the new automated system.
Since it began its process of election local officials, the Comelec is set to put up a historic milestone in its forty years of conducting regular or special polls by introducing the automation system. (PIA)
