Vice President Jejomar Binay has announced that Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has been included in the list of senatoriables under his United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Binay made the announcement in a press conference in Iloilo City.
Gov. Garcia, who left for Manila Tuesday, thanked Binay for her inclusion in the list.
Garcia later confirmed talking with the vice President last Tuesday, adding she felt honored being considered as a candidate for senator under the UNA party.
â€Well don’t you feel proud about that? This should be an honor for Cebu,†said Garcia.
â€We talked about very interesting developments with Vice President Jejomar Binay, and all of these will be unfolded in the next few weeks,†said Garcia, who kept to herself whether she will accept UNA’s offer.
UNA is a coalition between Binay’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party and former president Joseph Estrada’s Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) party.
Reports said the coalition is part of Binay’s preparation for a planned presidential run in 2016.
Garcia said her announcement of her political plans in 2013 may be sooner than July, as what she had promised.
Former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri earlier said Garcia is included in the long list of 18 potential Senate candidates under UNA.
UNA is still waiting for her response, which is expected in July during her State of the Province Address.
She was also endorsed by the National Unity Party (NUP) as one of their candidates for senator.
