MANILA -- Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. thinks that it's "too early" to decide whether or not he will run for president in the 2016 national elections.
Analysts say that the next presidential race will be a three-corner fight between Revilla, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II.
"It's an honor to be fielded against Vice President Binay and Secretary Mar Roxas but it's too early to call…I do believe in destiny. Kung dadating iyan, dadating iyan pero kailangang paghandaan," Revilla said during the press conference of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats Tuesday.
Revilla was promoted as chairman of the political party, while Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez took the senator's post as party president.
Last week, House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez said Revilla could likely be the presidential candidate of Lakas-CMD in 2016.
"'Pag nagdesisyon ako, ibig sabihin, handa ako," Revilla said.
But the senator said he would prefer focusing on the upcoming local elections in May, where some of his relatives are running, before he prepares for the 2016 presidential elections.
"One election at a time. Local muna tayo. Malayo pa yan," he told reporters.
Revilla's term as senator will end in 2016. In 2004, he ran and won the second highest number of votes. In 2010, he gathered the highest votes from the electorate.
He served as vice governor and governor of the province of Cavite before he occupied a national post. (Kathrina Alarez/Sunnex) --
