There are three things that the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) wants to hear during Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s state-of-the-nation-address (Sona).
“First, that she will abandon all efforts to convene Congress into a constituent assembly; second, that she will step down in 2010; and third, that she is not running for any position, not congresswoman or even municipal councilor in the 2010 elections,†Bayan-Bohol said in a statement.
To the militant group, “that is all that mattersâ€.
“That’s all we want to hear from PGMA,†said John Ruiz III, Bayan-Bohol secretary general.
Quoting Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño, Ruiz said this is all Bayan wants to hear from Pres. Arroyo.
“She should make her last Sona short and sweet. Enough of her lies,†Casiño said in a separate press statement.
The militant lawmaker said the President’s alter egos in Malacañang do not need to fool the people about a “resilient Philippine economyâ€, the “improved fight against corruption†and her “numerous achievements.
“PGMA’s claims of economic development are obviously far from reality,†Casiño’s statement concluded.
Citing the nationwide disgust for Pres. Arroyo and her administration, Ruiz said the three things people want to hear from her is the least that she can do to spare the people of more inconvenience during the Sona.
