WikiPilipinas an encyclopedia for Pinoys
By Tony Alvarez

Having a site with contents purely dedicated for the Filipinos is very uplifting especially if it touches issues and ideas not known to many. What more if the site is made by Filipinos, for the Filipinos and for people who want to know more about Filipinos? In this time where colonial mentality is rife, it is hard to find Filipinos boasting about their third world nation to the first world countries all over the world. Truth be told, Filipinos who put their fellowmen nowadays in pedestal are very rare so I salute them for keeping their Pinoy spirit alive and soaring.

Then came WikiPilipinas.org and everything else seem to fall into its own place. WikiPilipinas describes itself as the free and hip-web based encyclopedia of the Philippines and it hopes to bring in as many volunteers to take part in its “knowledge revolution,” to foster nationalism and help the country make an international niche abroad and gain cultural recognition of the Philippines.

With the 12 portals in the Philippines, anybody with a particular interest on a specific topic will surely find his/her place in the site. Are you the kind of person who is very vigilant with the country's politics and all the issues surrounding it? Then the Government and Politics portal is definitely right for you. Want to know who the richest senators are? How about the most corrupt agencies in the country? You wouldn't believe what you'll read.

Want to know the latest buzz in the entertainment scene? Then you're in the right place. With the Top 10 List of Sexiest Actresses, Top Movie Villains down to the Komiks Characters you used to love way back your childhood days, the Media and Entertainment portal will absolutely keep you glued.

History is one of the subjects that almost everyone finds boring. But watch how WikiPilipinas make its History portal appealing and exciting to read. You think you already know all the heroes in the Philippines do you? Well that's until you have gone into this portal. How about the Best-Dressed People in the society, the Top 10 Beauty Doctors to go to when you need some lift? The People and Society portal can answer all these questions. Love cooking and want to share your specialty? The Culture and Arts portal reserved a space just for you to show off that skill. And maybe you can prepare that specialty of yours to the long list of town fiestas this portal has lined up the whole year round. And speaking of fiestas, a fiesta is not complete without its annual sports fest and various games in the town plaza. Take a peek into the Sports and Leisure portal to get hold of all the traditional games and the popular sports being played in the Philippines. And as a bonus, you'll also get to know the Top 10 Richest athletes in the Philippines together with the Most Controversial ones.

Admit it or not, there's this small piece in you that wants to explore the things not visible to the naked eye. The microorganism that lies in every sickness plus their corresponding remedies is interesting. The weirdest creatures, medicinal plants plus the science hoaxes like Agapito Flores didn't really exist are just some attention-grabbing information you'll get when you visit the Science and Technology portal.

Do you work in one of the Top 100 Corporations the Philippines? Be inspired by the success stories of Philippine businessmen and entrepreneurs and be included in the Top 40 Richest Filipinos. All this and more at the Economy and Business portal. And after the hustles and bustles of your business, why not point your mouse pointer to the Geography and Travel portal and scout the perfect spot for unwinding. Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and all the beautiful places the Philippines has to offer. With 7,107 islands, 17 regions and 81 provinces, you'll never run out of places to visit and explore.

Religion is not at all monotonous as you think. With the five major religions and various sects in the country, surely there'll be a lot to talk about. From the controversies inside the churches down to the mythical creatures like asuwang, kapre and duwende, who says the Religion and Beliefs is a boring portal?

They're everywhere, Tsinoys, Hispano-Filipino, Moros and Fil-Ams. The Community portal is the place where our brothers and sisters can hang out while sharing part of their selves to the world. And speaking of sharing, the Philippine Websites portal, aside from having the most comprehensive list of all Philippine websites, wants you to share all the list of Philippine websites that you know. So if you have a website of your own, feel free to post it at WikiPilipinas and be known.

Truly, WikiPilipinas.org has everything you're looking for. Name it, they have it. An almanac, directory, encyclopedia and magazine all rolled into one. So what are you still waiting for? Log in at www.wikipilipinas.org now and be a part of the history by contributing to the largest free and hip Philippine encyclopedia in the world. Anything and everything under the sun about the Philippines is welcome, just as long as you abide to the site's policies and guidelines. Dahil Pinoy ako, alam ko ang lahing pinanggalingan ko at tutulong akong iangat at ipagmalaki ito sa buong mundo. Ikaw?
