𝗗𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗣𝗦, 𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗦 𝗙𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝟱, 𝟭𝟴𝟵𝟵
Scene at Malolos after the outbreak of hostilities with the Americans 125 years ago. Below is an excerpt from Captain Francisco Licuanan's memoir pertaining to that day which was published by historian Teodoro M. Kalaw after the Captain's death. Francisco Licuanan is an aide-de-camp of General Antonio Luna.
" On the night of February 4th, hostilities broke out between Americans and Filipinos in San Juan del Monte, now province of Rizal. At dawn on the fifth, unusual excitement on the streets was noted in the capital of the Republic, Malolos. Made more serious by the movement of troops which marched in compact columns as they crossed the Barasoain bridge towards the railroad station. The soldiers were lively and gay, the officers serene and cool. Everybody marched in a hurry but without losing the cadence and the rhythm of a troop on the march. The sound of drums and trumpets filled the air. Huge crowds of people stormed the post-office asking for news. The town in general was animated by its faith in the army, but it did not show the delirious enthusiasm of the multitude."
