Rep. Mikee Romero to POC:

PUSH THROUGH WITH FEB 23 POC ELECTIONS OR FACE CONTEMPT OF COURT AND LIKELY IOC DISCIPLINARY ACTION

I add my voice to the clarion clamor for Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) elections to push through as scheduled on February 23 and for all aspirants for the post of POC President to run against the incumbent.

Shameless machinations to disqualify anew Association of Boxing Alliance in the Philippines (ABAP) president Ricky Vargas and others to prevent them from running against incumbent POC President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Jr. must be averted at all cost in the name of fair and free elections.

Cojuangco’s 13-year reign must end tomorrow. He has been given many years and enough chances to uplift Philippine sports but failed miserably. Our International ranking is now at 6th-7th place in Southeast Asia behind Singapore, Vietnam and even Myanmar. The longest-serving POC president has put the country’s sports program to its lowest ever records. It is time for a fresh start.

To the remaining holdouts on the side of the current consistently underperforming POC leadership, I ask you to stand down, step aside, or get out of our way. It is the honorable way. You are well aware that the International Olympic Committee is closely monitoring how the February 23 POC elections will be conducted.

I recommend to the POC and to every NSA to review their respective charters and by-laws, set term limits, and institutionalize succession programs to ensure the sustainability of Philippine sports. Term limits and succession programs are the antidote to dictatorship by one or by committee. (END)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
