Ombudsman Morales reactivates Environmental Team

          Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales reactivated the Office’s Environmental Team of Investigators and Prosecutors pursuant to its commitment under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) in 2004.

             â€œPursuant to our commitment…to address the need to conserve, protect and restore our life support systems through the proper implementation or enforcement of existing environmental laws, there is a need to reconstitute our Environment Team…to be headed by the Environment Ombudsman,” Ombudsman Morales said in a memorandum.

               The OMB had inked a MOA with the IBP on February 3, 2004 to address environmental concerns.

            Assistant Ombudsman Asryman T. Rafanan said that “the Team will handle cases filed before this office against government officials and individuals accused of violating environmental laws.”         

           The launching of the Environmental Team was announced during the short program at the Indignation Rally against corruption on May 9, 2012 at the Quezon Memorial Circle, as part of the Ombudsman Anniversary activities.
