SINAS ORDERS CRACKDOWN VS. CONVICT-LED DRUG RINGS; REMINDS
OPERATING TEAMS TO USE PROTECTIVE GEAR IN HIGH-RISK OPERATIONS
Police busted another Cebu-based drug distribution network believed operated by a convicted druglord from inside prison.
PNP Chief, Police General Debold M Sinas said the latest discovery bolsters earlier similar revelations of the continued drug trafficking activities of convicted druglords even while serving sentence inside the national penitentiary.
Sinas directed Police Brig Gen Ronald Lee, Director of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) to to "coordinate closely with PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) and BuCor (Bureau of Corrections) to further validate the information and initiate possible interdiction operations."
In his report to Sinas, Lee said this latest discovery was revealed following an armed encounter at 10:30 PM on Tuesday with two heavily-armed drug suspects during a buy-bust operation in South Road Properties, Brgy. Mambaling, Cebu City.
According to Lee, Michael Johnlery Olid y Nacion, 29yo and Arnel Degulacion y Barcenas, 42yo, both of Talamban, Cebu City, died in a gunbattle with arresting police operatives from the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-7 and PDEG. The suspects were armed with a KG-9 submachinegun and a cal.45 pistol.
At the same time, the Chief PNP noted the risks faced by the operating team in defending themselves against the heavy firepower of the drug suspects. He reminded unit commanders to ensure adequate protective gear for operatives engaged in high-risk operations.
“Despite the hazards of the job, the PNP remains steadfast in our mission to eradicate illegal drug trade in the country and protect our people especially the youth from this menace,” the Chief PNP said.
Operatives recovered approximately two (2) kilograms of crystal Methamphtamine estimated to be worth P13.6-million drung the operation.
PDEG records identified Olid and Degulacion as henchmen of Ronald Aparecio Natividad alias Dodong Toldo, a convicted druglord now serving sentence at the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City.
Olid and Degulacion are also closely asssociated with Natividad's son Dave Kelleher who is presently detained at the Mandaue City Jail on drug charges, while the convict's wife Annabel was arrested by NCRPO and Bacoor City Police agents last November 2, 2020 with five (5) kilograms of Shabu during a buy-bust operation.
Last September, three henchmen of convicted druglord Rustico “Dikoy” Ygot were arrested by PNP anti-narcotics agents while negotiating to sell seven (7) kilograms of Shabu worth PHP47.6 million. Ygot was convicted in 2013 and has since been committed to the National Penitentiary.
