PIA - His Excellency Noe A. Wong, Ambassador of the Philippines to the Republic of Korea (ROK), talks on the flourishing bilateral relations between the Philippines and South Korea in various areas such as politics, multilateral arena, economic side, people-to-people exchanges, defense, among others.

“Now on the economic side, the existing relations between the Philippines and South Korea is a robust one.  And this is characterized by an active dialogue in the engagement in the political security, the economic and even the socio-cultural spheres.  And in fact, I would say that our economic relations as of the moment is really flourishing,” the Philippine envoy said.

According to Ambassador Wong, South Korea is one of the major destinations of Philippine export and the fourth (4th) trading partner of the Philippines.

He also spells out that the New Southern Policy, which puts the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the top diplomatic priority list of South Korea, is the latter’s pivot to Southeast Asia that will also be instrumental to the development of the Philippines.

“This New Southern Policy or this pivot, or this 30th ROK-ASEAN Summit will really redound to the benefit of the Philippines.  I will specifically mention one.  This pivot will redound to the Build,Build,Build program of the President.  There is a resurgence of infrastructure program in the Philippines and most of the construction companies here in Korea are going toward ASEAN,” Ambassador Wong added.

Likewise, he explained that the forthcoming 30th ASEAN- ROK Commemorative Summit will be an avenue to assess what has been achieved during the 30 years of its dialogue partnership, and it will hasten the commitment of the ASEAN Leaders to future cooperation.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is set to participate in the 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in Busan, South Korea.
