i am a registered voter of panglao, bohol and although the "vote-buying" part was a bit hurting to the image of panglaoanons, i am very very happy with the result of the elections.
panglao has suffered enough for the past three years in the hands of incompetents who projected themselves as leaders. if posting gigantic posters with their portraits on them is their idea of being leaders, then panglao was really going nowhere. if giving lechon, money and other gifts to the people is their idea of governance, then the island was really going to the pigs.
the people of panglao have spoken during the last elections. 2,000+ difference in votes could hardly be justified as caused by vote buying. it was more of a conscience vote. of course, the people they have helped in the past, those who received gifts and others voted for them that it why the actions and actuations of a certain candidate who lost in the elections is really very bothersome. it speaks well of the character of the person. it only shows that the help they extended to the people has kilometers of strings attached.
those who are not from panglao, let me tell you that the people of panglao are not stupid. there are many who are in need but not stupid. they know who they are voting for, with or without votes being bought. it is unfair to say that the alcala ticket won because of money because the dumaluan faction also gave out tons of money to the electorate. it's not as if they were clean as angels during the last elections. it was the conscience of the people that came through in the end...........
