Bohol Water Utilities, Inc. (BWUI) welcomed the decision of the local government unit of Panglao to allow all interested qualified parties to bid for the solution to the alarming water crisis in the prime tourist island.

The BWUI management headed by general manager Engr. Romeo Robles admired the determined effort of Gov. Erico Aumentado and Rep. Edgar Chatto in guiding town officials find ways hoped to ultimately address the vital concern.

Municipal officials led by mayor Benedicto Alcala and Vice Mayor Pedro Fuertes shared common vision to bring abundant water to their place.

A sudden special session right during a dialogue on the crisis at the town’s cultural center attended by the two Bohol leaders on Friday resulted in an option to subject the bulk water supply project to a competitive bidding.

This was deemed best as against allowing a number of companies to supply water thru an open access system, which can cause headaches in securing certificates of convenience from the National Water Resources Board (NWRB).

The problem can further cause conflicts over service areas.
The wanton lack of water on the island demands speedy action in anticipation of the concrete execution of the gigantic Panglao Bohol International Airport Project.

The BWUI has programmed the upgrading of its existing wells to meet the projected water demand.
This is distinct from its plan to add wells in Corella, BWUI’s present main source of water.
Corella Mayor Vito Rapal said the LGU can act on the BWUI request depending on the outcome of the negotiation.

He said Corella definitely has a lot of water for all other Boholanos.

The BWUI will install pumps to match its existing high-capacity wells without overextracting nature.
Robles emphasized their corporate vow of environment-friendly sufficient safe water enterprise for sustainable development.

Panglao is estimated to require between 3,000 and 4,000 cubic meters of water in the future from its initial need of 2,000 to 3,000 cubic meters.

The BWUI has technically assisted the LGU of adjacent Dauis in the latter’s P6 million water improvement project funded by Chatto.
