Going beyond the 17.7-percent difference at the present 82.3-percent food sufficiency, the provincial government aims for a 19.47-percent leap to achieve 101.77 percent food production rate by 2010.
Experts at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) calculated the target based on the projected efficiency of the present interventions through the Rice Accelerated Enhancement Response (RACER) project which covers two major programs- -the ongoing
Bohol Seeds Assistance Program (BSAP) and the
Bohol Fertilizer Assistance Program (BFAP) up for launching, both aimed at improving the yield of farmers in the 20 pilot municipalities.
This was according to Department of Agriculture (DA) Crops Productivity Division Chief Remedios Regacho, during the weekly radio program, Governor's Report, Friday.
The provincial government banks on the farmer's improved yield through cultivation of hybrid varieties of rice and other crops, and improving local agricultural technology to meet the target on timetable after Governor Erico Aumentado launched the RACER project on May 5, she said.
With BSAP's expansion already running since the second quarter this year, the governor planned to launch BFAP soon to totally empower
Boholano farmers whose improved produce, in return, will raise the food sufficiency level of the province.
