The centuries old Simbahan ng Dauis and the Dauis Church complex were both declared as national historical landmarks during formal rites last night which was covered live over dyRD-AM.
Chairman Ambeth Ocampo of the National Historical Institute cited the significance in declaring the church and its complex as landmarks in history.
At the signing ceremony yesterday were Bishop Leonardo Medroso and Mayor Luciano Bongalos, NHI Chairman Ocampo, NHI Executive Director Ludovico Badoy and Fr. Val Pinlac, parish priest and rector.
Prior the signing ceremony, Bishop Medroso officiated at a Pontifical Mass at the church.
In his acceptance talk, Bishop Medroso expressed elation on the move of NHI as this will enhance the religious and cultural touch of the Boholanos.
During the same occasion, the book “A Technical Note on the Conservation of the Textiles†(NHI publication) was launched.
Rep. Edgar Chatto presented the certificate of completed projects.
Other dignitaries present were Cecile Guidote Alvarez, executive director of the NCCA and president of the UNESCO Int’l Theater Institute Philippines Center, Director Bambi Harper of the National Heritage Foundation, Inc., and Fr. Ted Milan Torralba, executive secretary Permanent Committee on Cultural Heritage of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
