Long life is generally equated to good quality of life.
According to Mike's earlier thread, Boholano's life expectancy at birth as of the period 2000 to 2005 is
68.19 for males and
72.93 for females which is slightly higher than the Philippine national average for the same period at
67.03 for males and
72.92 for females.
Would you believe that the Japanese live almost a decade longer than Filipinos with life expectancy of
77.86 for males and
84.61 for females!
In most places in the world, women consistently outlive men! Can anyone explain?
The oldest man on earth is a Japanese, Tomoji Tanabe, who will turn
112 on Tuesday. The oldest woman is also a Japanese,Tsuneyo Toyonaga, who is
113. (Again, the woman is older by a year.)
The latest statistics in Japan is that there will be more than 30,000 centenarians or people over 100 years of age by end of October this year.
Most of the Japanese centenarians live in Okinawa, a cluster of islands in the south with a climate and an environment that resembles ours-I imagine perhaps closest to Bohol.
So let's check if life is kinder and gentler to Boholanos. How old is the oldest living relative or neighbor that you know?
