Bulingot is the old Bisayan term for drug addict
« on: September 01, 2007, 08:59:40 AM »
On the other hand, drug addiction and addictive drugs already have old Bisayan terms. The 1885 Espanyol-Bisaya dictionary of Fr. Juan Felix de la Encarnacion have the following entry:

Buligot is the old Bisayan for addictive drugs and bulingot is the old Bisayan term for drug addict.

It means that indulging in addictive drugs or plants like katyubong (hemlock) was already a problem since long time ago. (Note: Hemlock was the poison used to execute the Greek philosopher Socrates.)

Now, Bohol has the problem of drug addiction and prostitution. Drug addiction can be marginalized or totally eradicated because of the clear-cut role of the supplier and the user. However, prostitution will be difficult because it is a double-pull situation, both sides are the supplier and the user.
