Wala jud ko masajud, Vhinz, kay pagkatawo naho BOHOL nay pangalan aning atong isla, he he.

Bitaw, naay attempts at establishing a plausible etymology of the word, pero as far as I know walay definite notion as in, for instance, the etymology of MAKATI. Gikan kuno sa BOHO or BOOL or BOLBOL, pero ambut lang lagi. Ahong gipangutanan si Mampor, otro sang clueless ang gwatsinanggong daku.

(P.S. Vhinz, ajaw lang ko tawgag "Sir", ha? Pwede Hubs, or Hubby, or Botoy, or Bots or Toy. Matsalam.)

The island province of Bohol may aptly be called "Cave Country." Some 1400 caves have been counted, and probably many more have escaped notice. Some claim that Bohol even got its name from the word "buho", meaning "hole.", although that term is actually applied to a hole from which spring water leaves the ground -- something you can find quite often in the coastal towns of the island.

Bai Hubs,

Murag katuohan baja ning imong katin-awan. Pasabot ba kaha ani nga ang mga Bol-anon mas peninsular kaysa insular? Dili diay kita ang angay biay-biayan nga tagabukid.

Bitaw, Bai Hubs, murag maalamon man jud ka sa mga pinulungan. Unsa man jud standard Spanish pronunciation sa "ll"? Kay nisugot man lagi among propesor sa college nga muingon kag "ella" sama sa double-L sound imbes nga kanang naas tunga sa y- ug j-sound.

He he, hinanggaw ra ning aho, Bay Ben. Sa aho ra ning nadunggan sa pipila nahong kailang Katsila ug Latin Americans sa ahong pagbinagdoy. Ambut kon unsay standard, pero nahibawo ko nga ang "ll" is variously pronounced as "ly" "y" or "j" sa Spain. Mas daghan man seguro ang areas diin "ly" ang pronunciation. Sa Latin America morag "y" ang prevalent pronunciation.  It's interesting to note, however, that most Northern Europeans--especially those unfamiliar with Romance languages--would pronounce it as plain "l".

Mga Bol-anon man gud ang usa sa mga unang nahimamat sa kaliwat ni Legaspi dihang nasaag sila dire's atong kapupud-an. Bitaw, naa baja'y gasubay ning imong mga gipanuwat nga gatuon pa intawon ug Binisaya, dali ra mutuo bisag hinanggaw nimo. Pero bisan naa may peninsular connection o lunsayng Binol-anon jud ang "j", angay gihapon nato ipasigarbo kay ato ra jud ni.

Sama nga gimahal sa mga Katsila ang ilang “ñ”, bahala nag makahatag nilag kalisod sa ilang paghangop sa computer age, dili jud nato wagtangon ang atong “j” kay mao ni atong badge of distinction.
