« on: August 12, 2007, 08:32:08 AM »
Impressed on the poverty alleviation factor of the Let’s Help Bohol program of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Governor Erico B. Aumentado has pushed for its inclusion in the province’s list of entries to the Gawad Pook Foundation Award selection.
Governor Aumentado expressed his appreciation to the success of the animal dispersal, livestock management and sustainable farming programs of the OPV before the crowd of over 2,000 members of 52 different Peoples Organizations (POs) during the awarding ceremony of outstanding farmers and farmers groups on August 8 at the Bohol Cultural Center, in time for the fourth Let’s Help Bohol Day celebration.
This is to encourage beneficiaries of the Let’s Help Bohol (LHB) and Livelihood Integrated for Food and Family Enhancement (LIFFE) to sustain the programs which had been here since 1999.
For this year, the LHB will be Bohol ’s third entry in the Gawad Pook Foundation Award, in addition to the Bohol Crisis Intervention Center (BCIC) and the Legal Assistance for Effective Law Enforcement Program (LAELEP).
The OPV has until August 31 to catch the Gawad Pook deadline.
The OPV implements the LHB and LIFFE programs, in partnership with Heifer Project International (HPI) and 22 municipalities.
The program is benefiting 213 POs in 22 of the 47 towns in Bohol- -President Garcia, Inabanga, Talibon, Buenavista, Batuan, Trinidad, Antequera, Dagohoy, San Isidro, Bien Unido, Balilihan, Ubay, Getafe, Catigbian, Balilihan, Danao, Sierra-Bullones, San Miguel, Sevilla, Valencia, Corella, and Clarin.
The implementation of the LHB and LIFFE programs is based on 12 Pillars which are Passing-on the Gift, Full participation, Spirituality, Accountability, Sharing and Caring, Sustainability and Self-Reliance, Improved Animal Management, Nutrition and Income, Gender and Family Focus, Genuine need and justice, Improving the Environment, and Training and Education.
Based on the 12 pillars, the provincial government, through the OPV, awarded plaques of achievement and cash prizes to 16 farmers associations and 21 individual farmers from 17 of the 22 partner municipalities of the LHB and LIFFE programs.
This year, the municipalities of Sevilla , Valencia , Corella and Clarin have not yet come up with nominees yet being new in the program, while the community facilitators in Sikatuna simply did not come up with nominees.
