The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC)on Monday suspended classes in all levels in this southern port city due to inclement weather condition.

The declaration took effect 1 p.m. Monday as this city had been experiencing continuous heavy rains and strong winds for the past 48 hours.

The local office of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) said the continuous heavy rains is spawned by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Lawin.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, who chairs the CDRRMC, said a five-year-old boy died when a tree fell and smashed a house around 2 a.m. in Barangay Labuan, 36 kilometers west of this city.

Lobregat identified the boy as Mark Anthony Mallari, who was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Lobregat convened the CDRRMC and established an operation center at the conference room of the City Hall.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo reported during an emergency meeting of the CDRRMC that there were 876 families displaced by flood.

Barredo said of the 876 families affected, 559 are from this city’s east coast while the remaining 317 families are from the west coast.

Barredo said a total of 11 barangays were affected by flood.

Five of the 11 affected barangay are in this city’s east coast while six in the west coast, Barredo added.

City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said some 79 hectares of rice and vegetable crops were reportedly destroyed as of 2 p.m. Monday.

Palacat said they have yet to determine the value of rice and vegetable crops affected in the flood.

Lobregat said the Coast Guard has deployed two rubber boats in Barangay Vitali, east of this city, where the water reached chest-deep in some parts of the barangay.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
